Annapurna & Remedy Join Forces for ‘Alan Wake’ and ‘Control’ Film & TV Adaptations

The plan is for the Alan Wake and Control video games to get potential small and big screen adaptations from Annapurna, an official press release from Remedy Entertainment details.

Today’s press release announces, “Remedy Entertainment Plc (“Remedy”) announces a strategic partnership agreement with Annapurna Pictures (“Annapurna”). Annapurna will finance 50% of the development budget for the upcoming Control 2 video game and gain the rights to expand the award-winning Control and Alan Wake franchises into film and television.

“Remedy will receive a greater revenue share from game sales after the initial investments have been recouped, proportional to the amounts invested. Conversely, Annapurna will receive a greater revenue share from the audiovisual productions.

“Annapurna, an entertainment company founded by Megan Ellison in 2011, creates and produces original stories across film, interactive entertainment, television and theatre. Annapurna will take the lead in expanding Control and Alan Wake into new entertainment mediums, enabling Remedy to focus on the development of Control 2 and other upcoming games.

“As part of the deal, Annapurna will acquire an option to television, film, and selected audiovisual licensing rights for Control and Alan Wake as well as related ancillary products. Remedy will retain the full IP rights for Control and Alan Wake.”

“The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life,” said Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna. “By leveraging Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across mediums.”

“This strategic partnership between Annapurna and Remedy is an important milestone and an exciting opportunity for us. We know Annapurna shares our passion for our IPs and the universes we have created. With award-winning movies such as Zero Dark Thirty and games like Stray, Annapurna’s expertise across film, TV, and video games makes them an ideal partner for us. This agreement will ensure we can develop Control 2 into the best game possible, allow us to move into self-publishing for selected titles and expand our franchises to other mediums,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Movie Adaptation Rated “R” for “Bloody Horror Violence”

Published in 2020, author Adam Cesare gave rise to a new slasher villain in the horror novel Clown in a Cornfield, and a horror movie adaptation is on the way.

Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) will direct the movie adaptation of the young adult slasher novel, which comes courtesy of Protagonist Pictures Limited and Sony Pictures.

Clown in a Cornfield has been rated “R” this week for…

“Bloody horror violence, language throughout and teen drinking.”

Writer Carter Blanchard adapted Cesare’s novel, which has now spawned two sequels. Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo was just released on August 20, 2024.

Here’s the official synopsis for Adam Cesare’s slasher novel…

“Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out as quick as they can. Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It’s a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.”

“We love Eli Craig’s brand of scary fun and are thrilled to be working with him on this terrifying slasher adaptation that is both timely and timeless,” said Temple Hill producers.

“Nostalgia driven, elevated horrors that deliver on the promise of the genre – thrilling action, heart-stopping suspense and deeply satisfying endings – continue to dominate at the global box-office,” said Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop. “Our friends at Temple Hill are masters of taking this critical formula and creating wholly original stories that surprise, delight and gratify audiences and Eli is the perfect visionary to bring this special project to its full potential.”

‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ – UK Poster Calls New Movie “Fourth Installment in the Global Franchise”

Ketchup Entertainment’s Hellboy: The Crooked Man once again takes the franchise in a new direction, with Jack Kesy (12 Strong) taking over the title role this time around.

Oddly enough, however, the film’s official UK poster refers to Hellboy: The Crooked Man as “the fourth installment in the global franchise.” Technically true, of course, but usually a franchise reboot of this sort isn’t labeled that way. In any event, check out the UK art below.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man comes to UK theaters on September 27, with no United States release date announced at this time. We tip our hats to Total Film for sharing the UK art today.

Mike Mignola co-wrote the new Hellboy film with Christopher Golden.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is “set in the 1950s and costars Adeline Rudolph (Resident Evil) as a rookie agent of the BPRD who teams up with Hellboy to protect the residents of Appalachia from the creepy Crooked Man, who is collecting souls for the devil.”

Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Mom and Dad) directed the movie for Millennium, based on a Hellboy mini-series from 2008. The story is said to “expand Hellboy’s world through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”

Jefferson White (Yellowstone) stars alongside Kesy and Rudolph as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as the Crooked Man, among others.

The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” said Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein. “This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”

Millennium Media is producing the new movie alongside Dark Horse Entertainment.
