Filmmaker Curry Barker‘s chilling Obsession is right around the corner, but the cast continues to grow on his upcoming feature, Anything But Ghosts.
Deadline reports this afternoon that Jurassic World franchise mainstay Bryce Dallas Howard has joined previously announced cast member Aaron Paul.
In addition to directing, Barker will also star in Anything But Ghosts alongside his co-writer and creative partner, Cooper Tomlinson.
Plot details remain shrouded in secrecy on the project, which just wrapped production in Vancouver.
The film is produced by Jason Blum (Blumhouse), Roy Lee & Steven Schneider (Spooky Pictures), Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath (Divide/Conquer), in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea. Executive producers are Curry Barker, Cooper Tomlinson, and Image Nation’s Ben Ross.
Focus Features has boarded Anything But Ghosts for release.
That marks the second collaboration between Barker and Focus Features. The filmmaker made a splash in horror just a few years back with the low-budget YouTube horror movie Milk & Serial, which led to him directing this year’s Obsession for Focus Features, out on May 15.
Barker is already keeping busy in horror; the director also has a brand new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie in development.
Anything But Ghosts’ newest cast addition might be known for evading dinosaurs, but Howard’s genre credits also include The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Terminator Salvation, Lady in the Water, and The Village.

Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) will star in The Passenger, a historical escape thriller marking the English-language debut of The Girl with the Needle director Magnus von Horn, Variety reports.
Von Horn co-wrote the script with Aleko Gotscheff, based on Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz‘s 1938 German novel of the same name.
It follows Otto Silbermann, a respected businessman forced to flee Berlin after the November 1938 pogroms, known as Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass. Otto tries to escape with his wealth and drifts from train to train as his homeland becomes a cage and his identity dissolves.
“I keep being struck by how history repeats itself,” said vom Horn. “Boschwitz wrote The Passenger as a 23-year-old refugee in 1938; he didn’t have the luxury of hindsight, and neither does Otto Silbermann, who moves through Germany over four days believing the next train, the next acquaintance, the next bank counter will return him to the life he knew.”
He continues, “I want to make a film about that exact moment, the moment before someone admits the world has changed. I see it everywhere now: in headlines, in negotiations, in the rooms of people I love. We are extraordinary at staying.”
Jan Krueger & Rosh Khodabakhsh of Port au Prince Films and Mariusz Włodarski of Lava Films produce, with Martina Valentina Baumgartner serves as an executive producer.
FilmNation has acquired the worldwide rights, excluding German-speaking territories and Poland. They’ll co-finance the film and launch sales out of Cannes.
“Magnus’ work on The Girl with the Needle was remarkable — he is a true auteur filmmaker with an extraordinary ability to weave contemporary themes into historical narratives, and the FilmNation team is thrilled to bring his English-language debut to audiences around the world,” said FilmNation vice president of sales Alice Laffillé.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Magnus, Jeremy Strong, and FilmNation on bringing this gripping and vital story to the screen, uniting international voices in a film with true global reach,” added Krueger, Khodabakhsh, and Włodarski in a joint statement.

Genre label The Horror Collective has picked up a new influencer-based horror movie titled Fresh Meat, and Fangoria brings us the scoop along with some first-look images this week.
Fangoria reports, “they’ve picked up worldwide rights to the film directed by Daniel Turres, with international sales launching at this year’s Cannes Film Market.”
Fresh Meat centers on a group of influencers creating content inside an abandoned prison. But things take a turn for the worse when they accidentally unleash an abandoned and ravenous inmate, trapping them inside to fight for survival while they film the entire ordeal.
“Fresh Meat taps into our current obsession with content creation and asks what happens when the pursuit of viral fame becomes a matter of life and death,” writer and director Daniel Turres (Screambox’s horror-comedy Here for Blood) previews. “The abandoned prison setting creates this claustrophobic nightmare where escape feels impossible.”
Joelle Farrow, Mika Amonsen, Tyson Wong, and Hannah Galway star.
Fangoria also notes in their report that a release date hasn’t been set for Fresh Meat, but we’ll be sure to report that information when The Horror Collective announces it. Stay tuned.
