Fresh off the film’s premiere at Fantastic Fest, Strange Darling starring Kyle Gallner is headed our way courtesy of Magenta Light Studios, and the trailer has arrived today.

Strange Darling will release in theaters August 23, 2024. Watch the official trailer below, which is loaded with rave reviews including high praise from filmmaker Mike Flanagan!

Flanagan calls the upcoming film “sublimely brilliant.”

“We are thrilled to be bringing nationwide theatrical audiences this unique and exceptional film with terrific performances by Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. This second feature from talented writer-director JT Mollner is destined to become a cult classic that defies conventional storytelling,” Magenta Light’s Bob Yari said in a recent statement.

Strange Darling is currently 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews, one of which comes courtesy of Trace Thurman right here on Bloody Disgusting. Trace reviewed the film out of Fantastic Fest, giving the cat-and-mouse thriller a 3.5/5 star rating.

Trace writes, “Writer/director JT Mollner’s Strange Darling [is] a film that dares us to question the roles men and women are expected to play.” He goes on to say that the film ends up being “a smarter-than-you’d-expect entry into the cat and mouse thriller genre.”

“What we are left with is a grim little thriller whose lofty ambitions prove to be too much for it in the end, but you’ve got to give it credit for trying,” Trace also notes in his review.

Distributed by Magenta Light Studios, Strange Darling is a Miramax and Spooky Pictures Production. The film is produced by Bill Block, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Giovanni Ribisi and Chris Ivan Cevic, with Giovanni Ribisi also serving as the Director of Photography.

‘Blade’ Director Yann Demange Has Reportedly Exited the Marvel Reboot

Marvel’s upcoming Blade reboot has been going through all kinds of behind the scenes changes and delays, and The Wrap reports on another massive shakeup for the project tonight.

According to the site, director Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) has departed Marvel’s new Blade movie, an “entirely amicable” split they say happened “a while ago.”

As you may recall, director Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) had previously exited the project back in September 2022, with Yann Demange stepping in to take over shortly after.

At this time, The Wrap notes that Eric Pearson (Fantastic Four) is working on the script, with Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green writing previous drafts.

Last we heard, Blade will daywalk into movie theaters on November 7, 2025, but it’s entirely possible that date could change in the coming months. Stay tuned for more.

Mahershala Ali is starring in Blade alongside Mia Goth (X, Pearl).

The vampire-slaying character was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan, introduced in July 1973’s The Tomb of Dracula #10. Wesley Snipes played Blade across three films from 1998 through 2004, and he was played by Sticky Fingaz in a short-lived TV series.

The Wildest Horror Movie Of The ’80s Is Getting Remake From The Director Of Smile

Nothing is sacred anymore so Andrzej Zuławski’s Possession is being remade. Let’s hope star Robert Pattinson and Smile director Parker Finn pull it off.

Does Inside Out 2 Have A Credits Scene? A Spoiler-Free Guide

Inside Out 2 hits theaters this weekend, and you may be wondering if Pixar included some extra fun with some credits scenes. We’ve got the spoiler-free answer.

‘Possession’ Remake on the Way from ‘Smile’ Director Parker Finn and Robert Pattinson

Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror movie Possession is getting a remake from Smile writer/director Parker Finn, THR reports today, and actor Robert Pattinson is set to produce.

Finn is currently attached to write and direct the remake, which has reportedly caused a bidding war among A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros.

The project is still in its developmental early stages, meaning no plot or casting details are in place as of yet. But the original film is a strangely told narrative about an international spy and his intense relationship with his wife, it’s a haunting dissection of the dissolution of a relationship and the strange love affair the wife develops with a tentacle creature.

Leads Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani in the 1981 film devote every fiber of their being to their roles, and I don’t know that anyone has so fully committed themselves to their role as Adjani since. Disturbing, unnerving, and confusing, Possession is more of an emotional experience than a linear narrative, and there’s nothing else like it. Of course, it wasn’t a huge hit upon release, but it has emerged as a strong cult favorite in recent years.

Żuławski’s film recently received a new 4K restoration: “Banned upon release in 1981, Żuławski’s stunningly choreographed nightmare of a marriage unraveling is an experience unlike any other. Professional spy Mark (Neill) returns to his West Berlin home to find his wife Anna (Adjani) insistent on a divorce. As Anna’s frenzied behavior becomes ever more alarming, Mark discovers a truth more sinister than his wildest suspicions. With its pulsating score, visceral imagery, and some of the most haunting performances ever captured on screen, Possession is cinematic delirium at its most intoxicating.”

Pattinson is producing via his production company Icki Eneo Arlo, but there’s no confirmation at this time whether he’ll join the cast. Also producing is Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, who helped produce Zach Cregger’s breakout Barbarian.

Pattinson most recently starred in 2022’s The Batman and will return in January 2025 with Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17. As for Finn, look for Smile 2 to arrive in theaters this Halloween season.

With a bidding war underway for Possession, expect to hear more details on this project soon. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, Żuławski’s Possession is currently available to stream on Shudder.

‘Terrifier 3’ – Damien Leone Teases Stomach Turning Gore from New Effects Team

The makeup effects work on this Halloween season’s Terrifier 3 is complete, director Damien Leone has announced in a social media post this week that’s full of praise for the contributions from Christien Tinsley and his team at Tinsley Studio. The award-winning makeup effects studio is handling all the insane gore in the upcoming slasher sequel, and Leone promises that the bar for Terrifier violence is going to be raised even higher come October 11, 2024.

How is that even possible, you ask?! Leone writes on Instagram, “That’s a wrap on our incredible makeup FX team (@tinsleymua). It was scary relinquishing the makeup FX on Terrifier 3 to another team since me and @pjfalcone did mainly all of the FX work on part 1 & 2. But this time around, the scope of the film was just too big and the requirements were too great so it was time to bring in an amazing team so I could focus on directing.”

Needless to say the great Christien Tinsley and his crew brought my film into another stratosphere with their incredible artistry,” Leone continues. “They took on every insanely horrific idea I threw at them with gusto! “No”was never an option even when it was something I came up with on the spot last minute. Those are the kinds of artists a director dreams of working with so thank you sincerely for a wonderful collaboration and I can’t wait to see your work thrill audiences.

“To all the Terrifier fans out there – you seriously can’t imagine what’s in store for you come October! Your stomachs will turn and your minds will be blown! Also, a very special shout out and thank you to two key members who were there with us, knee deep in the bloody trenches every day on set applying makeup and spraying blood:@heathen_fx and @ryankeithward. You guys are an absolutely joy to work with and total rockstars.”

Stay tuned for more on Terrifier 3 very soon…
