‘Coherence’ Will Rearrange Your Brain on SCREAMBOX! [Trailer]

James Byrkit’s celebrated indie feature directorial debut, Coherence, is now streaming on SCREAMBOX.

In the surreal sci-fi thriller, a group of friends experience a disturbing chain of reality-bending events when a comet passes by.

“On the night of an astrological anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party become subject to a troubling chain of strange and puzzling goings-on.”

Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, Coherence is said to be a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.

Coherence had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, where it won the Next Wave Best Screenplay award and went on to play Sitges Film Festival (where it again took home the Best Screenplay prize) and the Philadelphia Film Festival, receiving widespread critical and audience acclaim at every stop along the way.

Check out the original theatrical trailer that introduced the puzzle, and crosses all boundaries.

‘Trap’ – Warner Bros. Sets Earlier Release Date for M. Night Shyamalan Thriller

Take your seats as the show is set to begin earlier than expected for M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap. Deadline reports that the anticipated thriller shifted release dates along with new mysterious projects from Warner Bros. on the way.

M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller for Warner Bros. – the sixteenth movie in his Oscar-nominated career thus far – is now headed to movie theaters nationwide on August 2, 2024.

That’s a one week bump from its original August 9 release date.

In the upcoming thriller starring Josh Hartnett, “A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”

As the official trailer for Trap reveals, the pop concert is actually an elaborate trap designed to catch The Butcher, a sadistic serial killer who has been evading authorities.

Saleka Shyamalan stars in the upcoming thriller as fictional pop star Lady Raven. Hartnett had recently described the mysterious film as “very bizarre” and “very dark.”

Trap is the first film Shyamalan has made under his new deal with Warner Bros., which has been described as a “multi-year first-look directing and producing agreement.”

Speaking of Warner Bros., the new Trap release date coincides with Warner Bros. announcement of a mysterious new project that has us intrigued. The studio unveiled release dates for multiple untitled projects that includes UNTITLED NL/ATOMIC MONSTER/BLUMHOUSE EVENT FILM, which will open on April 17, 2026, while an UNTITLED WB EVENT FILM will debut March 26, 2027. While the latter may not even fall under the genre umbrella, the former project most certainly is one to keep on your radar.

No details have been disclosed on just what these projects are, but it’s clear that a New Line, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse team-up means something huge is coming next spring. Luckily, filmmaker Lee Cronin confirmed on socials that it’s his newly announced feature set for April 17.

As always, stay tuned for additional details as they arrive.

Viral Marketing Campaign for ‘Smile 2’ Already Underway?

Paramount’s hit horror movie Smile gets a sequel this Halloween with returning director Parker Finn’s Smile 2, which centers on a pop star targeted by the franchise’s curse.

Naomi Scott leads the cast of Smile 2, which arrives in theaters on October 18, 2024. We’ve been waiting for the marketing campaign to begin… but maybe it already has…

Bloody Disgusting has spotted a billboard on Sunset Blvd. this week promoting a new album from the musician Skye Riley, with the words “Skye is limitless” plastered across an image of a woman’s lower face. We’re not aware of any actual musician who goes by that name, so we did a little sleuthing and it seems the billboard is part of a viral marketing campaign.

Our detective work led us to the Instagram account @SkyeRileyNation, which became active just five days ago. Various posts on the page are promoting the drop of Skye Riley’s latest single “Blood on White Satin” on Tuesday, June 18, and fleeting glimpses of the fictional musician sure as hell look a lot like, well, Smile 2 star Naomi Scott.

Of particular note, a lyric video posted earlier today (check it out below) is inter-cut with quick flashes that could be our very first glimpses of this year’s hotly anticipated sequel.

Is Skye Riley the character Naomi Scott is playing in Smile 2? And if so, does that mean the first official trailer is releasing on Tuesday, June 18? We’ll continue digging in the coming days…

The announced cast for Smile 2 also includes Kyle Gallner (Smile), Rosemarie DeWitt (“The Staircase”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), and Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), alongside Raúl Castillo (Army of the Dead) and Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds).

Stay tuned for more on Smile 2 as we learn it. The first film scared up a whopping $217 million worldwide in 2022, all but ensuring that a sequel wouldn’t be too far behind.

Emily Blunt is in Early Talks to Join Steven Spielberg’s Mysterious “Event Movie”

Steven Spielberg is reteaming with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) on an untitled “UFO film based on his own original idea,” and the mystery project may have found its star in Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place, Edge of TomorrowDeadline reports today.

Universal will be bringing an untitled “original event film” from Steven Spielberg to theaters on May 15, 2026, which has David Koepp as the writer based on a story by Spielberg.

The enigmatic film is “described as a two-hander, so Emily Blunt would be playing one of the two leads in the project.” Blunt, fresh off an Oscar win for her turn in Oppenheimer, is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s next film at Universal and Amblin. This would mark the first time that Blunt would appear in a Spielberg film.

Plot details remain under tight lock and key, but Variety recently teased that Spielberg will “likely make his next project a UFO film based on his own original idea.” So, it feels safe to predict that this is the aforementioned UFO movie, but we’ve got no confirmation at this time.

Interesting to note, Koepp is also returning to his early roots with the next installment in the Jurassic World franchise. He’ll be writing next year’s untitled new installment.

Steven Spielberg is of course no stranger to extraterrestrial encounters, directing two of the greatest alien movies of all time: Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 and E.T. in 1982. It’s an arena he returned to in 2005, directing an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.

Even more recently, Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment produced the Netflix docuseries “Encounters” last year, which explores true stories of human contact with otherworldly phenomena. You can stream all four episodes of “Encounters” over on Netflix right now.

Stay tuned for further details as they arrive on this “event movie.” One thing is for certain, though: all signs point to Spielberg returning to his summer blockbuster roots, which he essentially pioneered with films like Jaws and the Indiana Jones franchise.
