If The Substance and “The Beauty” have you in the mood for more satirical body horror, mark your calendar for Slanted.

The teen body horror comedy will open in theaters nationwide on March 13 via Bleecker Street.

It follows Joan Huang, who idolizes the popular girls and dreams of being prom queen, but fears the only way to win is to look like all the past queens whose portraits line her high school halls.

Enter Ethnos: a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic that turns people of color white. Joan undergoes the procedure and wakes up a beautiful blonde destined for the crown, but at what cost?

Shirley Chen (Dìdi), Mckenna Grace (Five Nights at Freddy’s 2), Vivian Wu (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (“Never Have I Ever”), Amelie Zilber (“Grown-ish”), and Fang Du star.

Writer-director Amy Wang (“The Brothers Sun”) makes her feature debut on the project, which premiered at last year’s SXSW and took home the Narrative Grand Jury Award.

“Slanted offers a searing and unapologetically satirical view of race and what it is to be white,” said Wang. “At the heart of this movie is a Chinese girl who just wants to feel accepted as an American.”

She continues, “This is a deeply personal film that digs into your insecurities and exposes the twisted realities of a fractured identity. I have made this movie in the hopes that by exposing my wounds as a Chinese Australian woman I can help others heal their own self-doubt.”

From Tideline Entertainment and Mountain Top Pictures, producers include Wang, Trevor Wall, Adel “Future” Nur, Cameron Boling, and Mark Ankner.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “As personal as Slanted feels, the superficial nature of its satire winds up softening a lot of its sharper edges. That likely suits its teen demographic well but won’t be as winsome for seasoned horror fans.”

The killer tomatoes are back in the first-look teaser for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence.

A pre-release screening of the film will take place on February 20 aboard the USS Midway Museum — where part of the movie was shot — in San Diego, with all proceeds benefiting Freedom Park at Burnham Navy Pier.

The fifth installment in the horror-comedy franchise pits the eternal power of nature against AI’s best and brightest.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes co-creators Costa Dillon and J. Stephen Peace return to write and executive produce. David Ferino directs.

The ensemble cast includes David Koechner (Anchorman), Dan Bakkedahl (“Veep”), Daniel Roebuck (Terrifier 3), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), Paul Bates (Coming to America), Vernee Watson (“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), and John Astin (The Addams Family).

Myrna Velasco (“Star Wars Resistance”), Noor Razooky (“The Old Man”), Zachary Roozen (Crawlers), David Brown (“Jury Duty”), Samantha Bailey (“The Young and the Restless”), and Joshua Poon also star.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes launched in 1979, followed by 1988’s Return of the Killer Tomatoes, 1991’s Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and 1992’s Killer Tomatoes Eat France. It also spawned an animated series in 1990.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is due out later this year from Anchor Bay.

The long-gestating Gundam film has finally found a home.

Deadline reports that Netflix is on board to the distribute the film, with Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid) and Noah Centineo (Black Adam) set to star.

Jim Mickle (“Sweet Tooth,” Stake Land) is writing and directing, based on Yoshiyuki Tomino‘s revered Japanese anime franchise.

Legendary co-developed the project with franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks. Mickle will produce with Linda Moran under their Nightshade banner.

Plot details are under wraps. Gundam is known pioneering the “real robot” mecha genre, depicting giant robots — governed by realistic physics and technological limitations — within a militaristic setting.

Deadline notes, “Gundam is set in the Universal Century, a future where humanity has colonized space. When a rebellion erupts between Earth and its colonies, the ensuing conflict is fought by pilots in massive mechanized contraptions known as mobile suits.

“The long-running multimedia franchise launched with series the ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ in 1979. Since then, the internationally renowned Yoshiyuki Tomino-created endeavor has spanned 83 animated series and movies, in addition to a lucrative merchandising arm that generates $600 million annually.”

Legendary first announced its development of a Gundam film back in 2021. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was attached to direct but is no longer involved.

Sweeney’s upcoming projects also include The Housemaid sequel The Housemaid’s Secret and Edgar Wright’s Barbarella remake.

Italian horror film Lenskeeper blends the cosmic dread of H.P. Lovecraft‘s work with the transgressive cinema of Lucio Fulci and Clive Barker.

“Lenskeeper is conceived as a sensory assault rather than a conventional narrative,” says writer-director Luca Canale B. “Vision becomes a threshold, a gateway to the unknown.”

EuroObscura will introduce the project to international buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin next month.

The popular short-form YouTube series “The Unknowable” gets a brand new long-form series with “The Unknowable: Darkland,” and we’re thrilled to announce that the horror series is coming exclusively to the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service.
