Director Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands arrives on Digital outlets beginning tomorrow (January 6), bringing the epic big screen adventure to your small(er) screen at home.
One of the movie’s many fans? Video game legend Hideo Kojima.
Kojima tweeted back in November of last year, “A few days ago, I threw out my back, so I wasn’t sure I’d make it through to the end watching a movie. But armed with my secret weapon—an inflatable lumbar pillow into the chair—I watched Predator: Badlands. A back-friendly 107 minutes! And it was great!”
“The film also takes heavy visual inspiration from video games,” Kojima’s tweet continued. “It represents a new direction for Hollywood entertainment led by a new generation of filmmakers who have inherited the global ‘memes’ of manga, anime, and gaming culture. I especially hope young anime fans who usually steer clear of live-action Western films will give this one a try.”
Given these comments back in November when he watched the movie, it should probably come as no surprise that Hideo Kojima feels a Predator: Badlands video game would be a natural evolution of Trachtenberg’s movie! In a video posted by WIRE over the holiday break, Kojima answered questions from fans and the subject of Predator: Badlands came up when he was asked which movies he’d be personally interested to adapt into video games.
Kojima answered, “A movie to adapt? Let me think. I recently saw Predator: Badlands. That felt quite game-like. Travelling with Elle Fanning on your back. I also recently watched Last Samurai Standing. The plot has game-like qualities. I might not make it, but it seems cool.”
It’s also interesting to note that Dan Trachtenberg reacted to these comments from Kojima in a tweet response to the story on Christmas Eve. He simply wrote, “Yes please.”
An epic trek across the world’s most dangerous planet, Predator: Badlands is without question a natural fit for a video game adaptation, and it’s not hard to imagine fighting different monsters and leveling up Dek’s armor and weaponry as you make the death-defying journey with your android pal strapped to your back. It sounds like a video game already, doesn’t it? In fact, Dan Trachtenberg was heavily influenced by video games when making the movie!
Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft have all been cited by Trachtenberg as video games that inspired Predator: Badlands.

Ehrland Hollingsworth writes and directs in addition to producing alongside Sligh, Vegha, and Josh Harris.
Dooba Dooba won Best Overall Feature at Nightmares Film Festival and Best Horror Film at Midwest WeirdFest, with additional honors from Panic Fest, Unnamed Footage Festival, Another Hole in the Head, and Central Florida Film Festival.

With Scream 7 less than two months away, a cardboard standee promoting the film has started popping up at theaters.
The towering display features Ghostface’s signature knife with the masked killer reflected in the blade. Beneath the pool of blood at the bottom reads the tagline: “Burn it all down.”

2026 brings us Evil Dead Burn, and director Sébastien Vaniček ushered in the new year with a peek inside the Necronomicon.
Pictured below, the Book of the Dead page features “Kunda” — part of the incantation that summons the Kandarian demons — scrawled across it.
The sixth film in the horror franchise will possess theaters on July 24 via New Line and Warner Bros.
Plot details remain under wraps, but Vaniček previously said, “I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested. I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”
Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), Hunter Doohan (“Wednesday”), Luciane Buchanan (“The Night Agent”), and Tandi Wright (Pearl) star.
Vanicek penned the script with his Infested co-writer Florent Bernard.
Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi and franchise producer Rob Tapert produce via their Ghost House Pictures. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin executive produce alongside Romel Adam and Jose Canas, both of whom worked on Evil Dead Rise.
Another new Evil Dead movie is in development from writer-director Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County).

After five films and a 20-year break, the Return of the Living Dead franchise is getting a brand new sequel, and the team announced during the holiday break that Tarman’s return to the screen will be ready for mass consumption during next year’s holiday season.
The film’s official website previews, “the film continues production into the new year while eyeing a theatrical release in November of 2026.” Stay tuned and read on for more info.
From Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats), Return of the Living Dead will be a brand new Christmas-themed sequel to the horror-comedy classic.
Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Heart Eyes) stars alongside Casimere “Cash” Jollette (Tiny Pretty Things), Kynlee Heiman (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), and Alexander Ward (“American Horror Story”) as the iconic zombie known as Tarman.
The new story takes place in a small Pennsylvania town over Christmas, and it’s set in 1985, 18 months after the events of the original film. “Fans of the film will know not to expect to see any returning characters, given their terrible fates in the original,” Living Dead Media explains. According to Wolsh, this is not a reboot or a remake, but a brand-new adventure and it won’t in any way trample the original film’s legacy. “Audiences can expect to be welcomed back into the dark humored, sexy, edgy, Trioxin fueled world horror fans first encountered in 1985.”
The production has called in SFX legend Tony Gardner (Zombieland, Hocus Pocus, Chucky franchise) to establish the zombie look for the story. Tony and his team at Alterian Inc. were first tasked with creating a Tarman true to the original but evolved, more realistic, and scarier, using decades of experience and modern technology and material to create amazing old-school practical effects. Gardner said, “[To be able to] up the horror, but be true to its roots, I feel like I’m the perfect person for the job… and I’m really excited.”
