Stranger Things might be coming to an end but Netflix probably already has their next money-making franchise ready to go.

The classic Gaston Leroux novel The Phantom of the Opera has been adapted countless times over the years – even Robert Englund played the Phantom back in the 1980s! – and we may someday see Guillermo del Toro put his own spin on the tale. Not anytime soon, he makes clear in a new conversation with Inverse, but it’s clearly something that’s on his mind.
“It’s such a classic tale, but I would do it differently,” Del Toro explained to the outlet when asked which classic monster he’d be most interested in bringing to the screen in the wake of Frankenstein. “I have a couple of ideas but for now, I’m going into crime and stop-motion.”
There was a time when Guillermo del Toro nearly linked up with Universal to reimagine their iconic Universal Monsters properties, but when that failed to come together, he instead made his own unofficial Creature from the Black Lagoon movie with The Shape of Water. He ended up winning several Oscars in the process, and next turned his attention to Frankenstein.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which may also find itself in the Academy Awards conversation next year, is now playing in select theaters with more locations being added soon.
Following its big-screen run, the film comes exclusively to Netflix on November 7.
Del Toro’s future plans, as he notes in the chat with Inverse, do indeed include a new stop-motion venture with Netflix, while he teases that he’s embarking on a new phase of his career.
“I feel like I need a change,” del Toro admits.

Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic Sinners was one of the biggest success stories for the horror genre this year, and it’s coming back to theaters one final time for the Halloween season.
The critically acclaimed vampire film will play in select IMAX locations between October 30 and November 5, and the full list of locations has been announced this afternoon.

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed), Sinners was shot on IMAX 70mm film with optimized symphonic sound design and immersive visuals.
Michael B. Jordan stars in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack.
In the film, “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, they return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee), Jack O’Connell (Eden Lake), Wunmi Mosaku (“Loki”), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Omar Benson Miller (“CSI: Miami”), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) round out the incredible ensemble cast of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.

The Ring franchise executive producer Mike Macari is set to produce a feature adaptation of the viral horror short The Bells, Deadline reports.
Virat Pal, who helmed the original short, will make his feature directorial debut on the film from a script he co-wrote with Danny Barclay, who starred in the short.
A supernatural horror film in the vein of The Ring and Smile, The Bells centers on a cursed phenomenon where victims hear mysterious bells tolling before meeting a deadly fate.
The seven-minute short has amassed over nine million views since hitting YouTube in 2018. Watch it below.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Virat’s work since I first saw his V/H/S segment,” said Macari. “So when I read his feature script for The Bells, I was immediately hooked. The concept of the bells tolling is deeply unnerving and eerie in a way that stays with you long after the credits roll.”
He continues, “What Virat and Danny have crafted is something truly special. It has that rare quality of being both terrifying and emotionally resonant. I’m thrilled to be working with him.”
Pal most recently directed the V/H/S/Beyond segment “Dream Girl.”

Two fan favorites here in the horror world are coming together in Carolina Caroline, with Deadline announcing that Magnolia Pictures has scooped up the film’s North American rights.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) and Kyle Gallner (Strange Darling) lead the cast!
Carolina Caroline is described as a “romantic crime thriller,” with Adam Carter Rehmeier directing. If you’re not familiar with his work, watch throwback comedy Snack Shack ASAP.
Adam Rehmeier also directed Dinner in America starring Kyle Gallner.
In Carolina Caroline, “Samara Weaving stars as Caroline Daniels, whose desire to leave her small Texas town brings her into the orbit of a charismatic con man (Kyle Gallner). Together they weave a path of crime and passion across the American Southeast.”
Tom Dean wrote the screenplay, with Kyra Sedgwick also starring.
“Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner are fantastic in director Adam Carter Rehmeier’s riveting romantic crime thriller,” said Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley. “The film is a blast from start to finish.”
Rehmeier said in his own statement, “I’m excited to be working with Magnolia to bring Carolina Caroline to audiences in theaters next year. For me, chemistry is everything in a romance—and Samara and Kyle’s performances are nothing short of electric. Their crime spree across the American South demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.”
Expect a theatrical release sometime next year.

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers with the soundtrack on vinyl from Mondo, in association with Varèse Sarabande.
The sixth installment in the horror franchise marks the final score in the series from Alan Howarth, who collaborated with John Carpenter on Halloween II and III, and scored Halloween 4 and 5 solo.
The reissue is pressed on 2xLP 140-gram “Thorn Harvest” colored vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket featuring artwork by Janie Peacock.
Priced at $50, the album is expected to ship in March 2026.
In the 1995 slasher, six years after being presumed dead in a fire, and just as the town prepares to finally celebrate Halloween again, Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield to continue his reign of terror.
