Next up from Ready or Not actor-turned-director Mark O’Brien (The Righteous) is the dark horror comedy Nice People, and Deadline reports that it’s found its ensemble cast.

O’Brien will also star in the film alongside Sosie Bacon (Smile), Chloe Bennet (Dave), Keean Johnson (Alita: Battle Angel), Skylar Astin (Ghosts of War), Ayden Mayeri (Confess, Fletch), Ella Travolta, and Matias Lucas (The Order).

Nice People follows “seven former friends reunite at an abandoned clinic that hides their terrible secret. The evening spirals into paranoia, dark humor, and deadly choices as, one after another, they begin to die.”

The horror comedy is based on an original screenplay by Arwen Elys Dayton.

O’Brien said in a statement, “I couldn’t be more excited to work with these incredible producers, actors, and creatives. This film is a wild ride, a relentlessly propulsive story that I have no doubt will give audiences a unique thrill–lingering long after they’ve seen it.”

Producers on the project include Damiano Tucci, Dayton, Sophia Banks, Luke Watson, Vinny Lingham, Kevin Carter, and Mark O’Neill. Bacon and Kevin Hussey will executive produce, with production set to begin this month.

After making a name for himself playing Jason Voorhees across four Friday the 13th films, Kane Hodder helped create another horror icon with Hatchet‘s Victor Crowley.

It’s been eight years since the fourth installment in writer-director Adam Green‘s slasher franchise, and Hodder teased a potential fifth entry at Silver Scream Con.

“I think there’s a decent chance it happens, but nothing’s planned yet,” Hodder told a fan during his panel.

“All I know is that Adam has an idea, if it ever happens, of the setting, and I think it would be amazing if we did that.” He adds with a smile, “And it’s not space!”

Hodder also mentioned that he has not seen Sweet Revenge, the new Jason Universe short film.

Green recently provided an update on Hatchet 5. “Once we can make the movie with different entities behind the scenes at the top level, then I’ll be interested in doing [Hatchet] 5. But things need to change.”

The filmmaker continues, “The creative team is still very much a happy family and would love to do it, but… we need to be under new management, maybe that’s the best way to put it. The diplomatic way to put it. I think the old management knows at this point, I’m not kidding when I keep saying I’m not going to do it. So we’ll see what happens.”

A gory love letter to ’80s slashers, Hatchet premiered in 2006. It was followed by 2010’s Hatchet II, 2013’s Hatchet III, and 2017’s Victor Crowley.

The director of the 2020 slasher Initiation is back this Halloween with The Mannequin, and Jackrabbit Media has released the official trailer this week. Check it out below.

The film is said to be “a tense and stylish new take on possession horror.”

The Mannequin will come to life on Digital outlets on October 14, 2025.

In the film from director John Berardo, “Liana Rojas (Isabella Gomez), a creatively starved stylist assistant, discovers that the historical downtown Los Angeles factory building where her fashion designer sister mysteriously died is haunted by a serial killer posing as a headshot photographer for film studios who brutally murdered and dismembered his victims half a century earlier. This knowledge forces Liana and her friends to find a way to free themselves from the curse and escape the sinister ghost before they lose their own body parts.”

Krystle Martin (The Mean One), Lindsay LaVanchy (Predator: Killer of Killers), Jack Sochet (Smile) and Maxwell Hamilton (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) also star.

Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich teased their upcoming reunion in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 during the Scream panel at Silver Scream Con over the weekend.

“I am thrilled to have [Skeet] in the community,” said Lillard, who reprises his role as William Afton from the 2023 video game adapatation. “I saw his performance this week. They’re gonna love it. He’s playing a great character. If the movie’s successful, hopefully he comes back.”

Lillard continues, “We’ve seen how voracious this Five Nights community is, and I just think it’s lovely to have him a part of it. I’m glad Scott [Cawthon, Five Nights at Freddy’s creator] brought him in.”

“I always love spending time with Matt,” Ulrich added. “He’s one of the greatest people I know, quite honestly. As you guys have experienced, he’s such a giving man. I always like spending time with him, and [Five Nights at Freddy’s 2] was no exception.”

“I love William Afton,” Lillard noted. “The first movie I think I had, like, two written lines in the script, and I said to the director [Emma Tammi], ‘Why do you want me in this movie?’ And she said to me, ‘You’re the Voldemort of the universe, and they can’t make a movie without you.’ I’m like, ‘I’m so in!’

Lillard adds, “I love being a part of the franchise. I value that part and what William Afton means to the fans, so I take it really seriously.

“In fact, Dead by Daylight, the video game, they wanted me to do the Springtap lines. I’m like, ‘I’m not doing Springtap until I do Springtap in the movie.’ So the only way I do Springtap is that people go see the movie on December 5! And then we make a third.”

In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, one year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest.

Former security guard Mike and police officer Vanessa have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby, concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.

Tammi is back in the director’s chair, working from another script by Cawthon.

Lillard and Ulrich star alongside Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Theodus Crane, Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, and Mckenna Grace.

Dolly blends inspiration from gritty 1970s American horror like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes with the New French Extremity movement that yielded such works as High Tension, Martyrs, and Inside.

Shot on Super 16mm film, the twisted folk horror tale premieres at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX, on September 21 before heading to the Sitges Film Festival in Spain next month. Watch the teaser below.

A young woman, Macy, fights for survival after being abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise Macy as their child.

Rod Blackhurst (“Amanda Knox,” Night Swim) directs from a script he co-wrote with Brandon Weavil, based on their 2022 short Babygirl.

Fabianne Therese (John Dies at the End), Seann William Scott (American Pie), Ethan Suplee (Mallrats), and pro wrestler Max the Impaler star.

“Dolly is an elegant and twisted fairy tale born out of a deep love of gritty genre films and wanting to see something bonkers that a 13-year-old me would pine to rent (somehow) from the local video store (that was also the jewelry and appliance repair store) in rural upstate New York,” said Blackhurst.

“I knew this film needed to have a strange, deranged beating heart not just for our protagonist, Macy, but the titular Dolly, who I hope is a shockingly complex and ultimately oddly sympathetic figure – and a character who will bring much madness to audiences for years to come,” Blackhurst continues.

“Because as outsiders, this film is a renewed investment in our ethos as filmmakers, our proud tribe of misfits, and our families, especially our children, who I hope never meet a life sized, blood-soaked doll in the woods.”

Blackhurst has franchise aspirations for the film, with a prequel exploring Dolly’s origins and mythology already written and slated for production.
