Vinegar Syndrome just kicked off the month with the reveal of their full August lineup, and one of the highlights of the new wave is Troma’s cult classic Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.

Available as a Standard Edition or a Limited Edition Slipcase Edition, the 1990 Troma film gets a 4K Ultra HD upgrade from Vinegar Syndrome, and it’s now up for pre-order!

After scaring up an impressive $150 million worldwide, making it the third highest grossing horror movie of the year so far, Danny Boyle’s long-awaited sequel 28 Years Later has made its way home this week. You can now purchase or rent the film on Premium VOD outlets including Amazon, with a digital rental costing $19.99 and a purchase running you $24.99.

The long awaited sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later puts Danny Boyle back in the director’s chair, with Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina, Annihilation) scripting.

In 28 Years Later, “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. Based on a true story inspired by a viral Craigslist ad, the psychological horror drama The Plastic Men is written and directed by Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators).

H.G. Wells‘ sci-fi classic War of the Worlds gets a new screenlife reimagining starring Ice Cube (Anaconda), and the film was released out of nowhere on Prime Video this week.

War of the Worlds, from producers Patrick Aiello (As Above, So Below) and Timur Bekmambetov (Missing, Unfriended, Hardcore Henry), was directed by Rich Lee.

Kenneth Golde and Marc Hyman wrote the new adaptation.

This modern-day adaptation follows “Will Radford (Ice Cube), a top cyber-security analyst for Homeland Security, who spends his days tracking potential threats to national security through a mass surveillance program, until an attack by an unknown entity leads him to question whether the government is hiding something from him… and the rest of the world.”

“Set against a backdrop of surveillance, mass data collection, and government-tech collusion, the film explores urgent themes of privacy vs. security, family vs. work, and humanity vs. control. With nods to Orwell’s 1984 and powered by a screenlife-style format, this refresh of H.G. Wells’ classic novel resonates with today’s digital anxieties.”

Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Andrea Savage, Henry Hunter Hall, Iman Benson, Devon Bostick, and Michael O’Neill also star alongside Ice Cube in the screenlife movie.

Real-life spouses Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in NEON’s new body horror nightmare Together, and the acclaimed film is now playing exclusively in theaters nationwide.

“Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other.

“With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural foe threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.”

Writer-director Michael Shanks makes his feature debut with Together.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review out of Sundance, “Its unique blend of awkward romantic dramedy and cosmic body horror yields no shortage of crowd-pleasing moments and horror freakouts that left the rowdy Sundance audience laughing and screaming in equal measure.”

A horrific adventure soaked in blood, salt, and vengeance, Blood Red Beach is a supernatural slasher that follows a cursed pirate hellbent on revenge — and anyone who sets foot on his island will pay the price. The film was released exclusively on physical media today by Mad Angel Films, where you can grab the Blu-ray ($20), DVD ($15), and/or VHS ($30).

“A group of friends head to a remote island looking for adventure, but stumble into something far more sinister: the vengeful ghost of pirate Captain Roderick Cross, cursed centuries ago to haunt the land until his stolen treasure is returned. As the island’s secrets unravel, the group must find a way to end the curse… or join the Captain’s crew of the damned.”

The indie film is directed by Matthew A. Peters (Graveyard Shark) and written by Mark Joseph Peek, who also stars. Cara Fay, Stephanie Ward, Berndele March, Ryan Santiago, Mel Heflin, Jameson Duross, Nicole Mecca, Devin Waters, Malvina Lacey, Jesse Wakeman, Cait Devin, and Patrick Regan round out the cast.

The supernatural horror movie Queen of Bones has finally been released here in the United States this week, with Vertical bringing the film to VOD outlets beginning today.

Julia Butters (The Fabelmans), Jacob Tremblay (The Predator, The Toxic Avenger), Martin Freeman (Fargo) and Taylor Schilling (Pam & Tommy) star in the folk horror film.

Queen of Bones follows twin siblings Lily (Butters) and Sam (Tremblay) who live at a remote homestead with their widowed father, Malcolm (Freeman), a violinmaker in 1931 Oregon.

When Lily and Sam find an Icelandic spell book in the cellar, they begin to suspect a connection between their mother’s death and dark forces in the woods. They then embark on a dangerous mission to force their father and his friend, Ida May (Schilling), to reveal the truth.

And on the small screen this week, don’t forget that “Twisted Metal” Season 2 premiered on Peacock earlier this week. The first three episodes of the new season are now streaming.

New episodes will release every Thursday through August 28.
