‘HIM’ – New Image from Jordan Peele-Produced Sports Horror Movie Gets the Horns

The new horror movie from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, HIM will release in theaters on September 19, and Empire Online has shared a brand new image this week.

The director of HIM is not Jordan Peele but rather Justin Tipping (Kicks), and Tipping explains to Empire Online that while the film may initially seem like a typical sports movie, it ultimately devolves until a full-throated nightmare of an experience.

Tipping tells the outlet, “My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we’re in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad. We’re rooting for the kid who just needs to unlock one thing to take it to the next level. And then we subvert the expectations and let it become Nosferatu or Ex Machina.”

“And let it evolve or devolve — depending on your sensibilities — into something it’s not,” Tipping continues.

From Oscar® winner Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions, producers of the landmark horror films Get Out, Us, Candyman and Nope, comes a chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, idolatry and the pursuit of excellence at any cost, featuring an electrifying dramatic performance from Marlon Wayans (Air, Respect).

HIM stars former college wide-receiver Tyriq Withers (the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.

Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia FoxUncut Gems, No Sudden Move). But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.

The film features a dynamic supporting cast including alternative comedy legend Tim Heidecker (First Time Female Director, Us) and Australian comic Jim Jefferies (The Jim Jefferies Show), plus MMA heavyweight fighter Maurice Greene and hip hop phenoms Guapdad 4000 and Grammy nominee Tierra Whack, all three in their feature film debuts.

Does The Naked Gun Have A Post-Credits Scene? A Spoiler-Free Guide

The Naked Gun is bringing comedy back to theaters in a big way. But do the laughs keep coming with a post-credits scene?

‘The Medium’ – Bloober Team’s Horror Video Game Getting a Movie Adaptation

Bloober Team’s The Medium is the next horror game to make the leap to the big screen, with THR reporting that Gary Dauberman’s label Coin Operated has picked up the film rights.

The Hollywood Reporter details in this afternoon’s exclusive report, “Gary Dauberman and Mia Maniscalco, his president at Coin Operated, will produce the adaptation through the banner. A search for a writer and a director for the project is underway.”

First launched in 2021 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via SteamThe Medium is set in the late ‘90s, and follows Marianne, a psychic investigating the abandoned Hotel Niwa in search of answers about her past.

Exploring the physical world and the spirit world simultaneously, this gameplay mechanic lets players use the interactions between them to solve dual-reality puzzles, unlock new paths, and awaken memories of past events.

The spirit world is a dark mirror reflection of our reality, and it has been modeled and designed from inspirations of Polish dystopian surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński.

For those in need of a refresher, hit up our review of the Xbox Series version.

“With its compelling story and incredibly cinematic visuals, The Medium is a natural for a feature film adaptation,” said Dauberman. “When I talked to Piotr about it, we immediately connected on our mutual love of horror and his vision for where the genre is headed.”

Dauberman continues, “I have no doubt anything Bloober develops is going to push horror forward in unique and terrifying ways, and I’m excited to be working alongside them.”

Gary Dauberman most recently scripted the Until Dawn video game adaptation, with his credits also including Salem’s Lot, The Nun II, IT, IT: Chapter Two, and Annabelle: Creation.

Marvel Has One Specific Plan To Make Its X-Men Reboot A Box Office Success

Marvel Studios is moving full speed ahead with its X-Men movie reboot, and it’s using an old playbook for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to ensure its success.

Sci-Fi Horror ‘Cold Storage’ from ‘Jurassic Park’ Writer Rated R for Gore

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the North American rights to Studiocanal’s comedic sci-fi horror movie Cold Storage, and it has officially received an  “R” rating.

Cold Storage has been rated “R this week for “violent content, gore, and language.”

Joe Keery (“Stranger Things“), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Liam Neeson (Taken), Sosie Bacon (Smile), Vanessa Redgrave (Mission: Impossible), and Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) star.

The film follows “Teacake (Keery) and Naomi (Campbell), two employees at a self-storage facility built atop a former military base, whose night shift transforms into a nightmare when a government-sealed parasitic fungus escapes from the underground levels. As temperatures rise, the microorganism unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting mayhem on anything in its path. The duo must join forces with a weathered bioterror operative (Neeson) to contain the threat before it triggers humanity’s extinction.”

The pesky Cordyceps fungus strikes again in the genre space, spelling disaster, suspense, and death in Cold Storage.

Jonny Campbell (“Dracula,“Westworld”) directs from a script by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Presence), who adapts his 2019 novel of the same name. Koepp produces alongside Gavin Polone (Zombieland, Panic Room).

Koepp’s novel brought pulpy fun, delivering a fast-paced sci-fi thriller with humor. With Keery at the forefront of the cast, we should definitely expect the novel’s comedic side to carry over into this adaptation. Thanks to the new MPA rating, we can expect plenty of gory post-apocalyptic style mayhem, too.

Samuel Goldwyn Films plans a nationwide theatrical release later this year, so stay tuned for details as they arrive.
