After three movies and a one-season television series, I Know What You Did Last Summer returned to the big screen over the weekend for the first time in 27 years, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. guiding a group of fresh faces through more or less the exact same situation their characters found themselves in back in the 1990s.

How did I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) fare at the box office?

The slasher legacy sequel from Sony scared up an estimated $13 million in 3,206 theaters here in the United States, with the film’s worldwide opening weekend hitting $24.6 million.

At the domestic box office, the film’s $13 million opening placed it in the #3 spot on the weekend charts, behind recent big budget blockbusters Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth.

The good news for I Know What You Did Last Summer is that the film’s production budget was a reported $18 million, so it should end up being profitable at the box office when all is said and done. But the film’s $13 million opening is a far cry from the comparable Scream franchise’s $30 million domestic opening return back in 2022, and even further away from Scream VI‘s $44 million debut the following year. Both films went on to scare up well over $100 million worldwide, a landmark that I Know What You Did Last Summer isn’t likely to ever hit.

Unadjusted for inflation, the original I Know What You Did Last Summer debuted to $15.8 million back in 1997 and raked in $125.5 million total, while 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer debuted with $16.5 million and ended its run with $84 million.

My personal analysis of the situation? $24.6 million isn’t a terrible worldwide debut for this particular movie, and the budget being on the lower end certainly helps. But the lesson Sony is likely to learn is one they seem to have learned a few times over at this point: I Know What You Did Last Summer isn’t really a franchise that audiences are going to be flocking to see.

Even with no less than two sequel teases capping off director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s new movie, we’d be surprised to see this franchise back up on the big screen anytime soon.

20th Century Studios has debuted an action-packed and creature-heavy new trailer for Predator: Badlands this morning, giving a closer look at the unexpected team-up between a young Yautja warrior and a Weyland-Yutani synth.

Predator: Badlands will release in theaters on November 7, 2025, in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, RealD 3D, Cinemark XD, 4DX, ScreenX, and premium screens everywhere.

Elle Fanning stars alongside Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Yautja warrior Dek.

The newest entry in the franchise is set on a remote planet where a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. The new trailer warns that the warrior has chosen the most dangerous game on the most dangerous planet possible. 

Trachtenberg (Prey, 10 Cloverfield Lane) directs from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Aison (Prey).

“There’s a unique hook to her character that is exciting in the pairing of [her and Dek],” Trachtenberg previously teased to BD of one of Fanning’s characters. The trailer finally brings answers on that front: Thia is a damaged synth who will be strapped to the back of Dek in their bid to hunt big game. 

The trailer also brings a new poster that supports the trailer’s new weaponry and creature action: it welcomes fans to a world of hurt. 

Owned by Disney under the 20th Century Studios umbrella, the Predator franchise of course kicked off with the original action-horror classic in 1987. That was followed by sequels Predator 2, Predators, The Predator, and Prey, as well as the two Alien vs. Predator movies. The long-running franchise also includes all kinds of comic books and games.

Get ready for a very different type of Predator movie this fall.

That’s the cryptic verse attached to the teaser trailer for Keeper, which previews those who are not right for this place.

Directed by modern master of horror Osgood Perkins, the dark trip hits theaters on November 14 via Neon.

It follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm suddenly returns to the city, Liz finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.

Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) star. Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals) wrote the script.

Keeper marks Perkins’ third collaboration with Neon in two years, following Longlegs and The Monkey.

In a Violent Nature 2 will start production in Canada this September, Variety has learned.

Announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con, the sequel to the arthouse slasher is once again written by Chris Nash, who is also expected to return to the director’s chair.

Nash will produce alongside Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer. Emily Gotto, Nicholas Lazo and Samuel Zimmerman are overseeing development for Shudder.

“In a Violent Nature was originally conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so we were always imagining mayhem beyond the scope of the original film,” Kuplowsky previously said. “That we now have the opportunity to continue following Johnny on his restless walk has us feeling incredibly grateful to our incredible partners at IFC Films/Shudder who believed in Chris’ vision from day one. We are thrilled to return for a new chapter and are excited to deploy Johnny as a conduit to further experiments in the genre.”

In the first film, when a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny (Ry Barrett), a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it.

The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back — along with anyone in his way.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “In a Violent Nature may offer slasher thrills and a delightfully gory rampage across the wilderness, but Nash’s approach captures the carnage through ambient realism. It results in a fascinating arthouse horror experiment that plays more like a minimalist slice-of-life feature with a grim twist.”
