Netflix has greenlit a feature retelling Quasimodo, the humpbacked man said to have inspired Victor Hugo’s French gothic novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. The Shrouds and Irréversible star Vincent Cassel is set to play the lead, Deadline reports.

Jean-Francois Richet (Plane) is set to direct from a screenplay by Eric Besnard (Wrath of Man).

Quasimodo‘s logline reads, “Set in Paris on the eve of the July Revolution (1830), this film reimagines the life of the man said to have inspired Victor Hugo’s iconic character, Quasimodo. As the cholera epidemic spreads through the city, he’s caught between political turmoil and an impossible love.”

Cassel, who will play the bell-ringer in the biopic, is also known for genre roles in Underwater, Black Swan, Sheitan, and more. Quasimodo also marks a reunion between Richet and Cassel; the pair previously worked together on crime thriller Mesrine.

Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been adapted a handful of times over the years, first in 1911 and perhaps most notably by Universal Studios in 1923. The tale of course also became a Walt Disney animated film in 1996. This also isn’t the first attempt Netflix has made in launching a new retelling of Hugo’s classic; Idris Elba was once attached to star in a more direct adaptation of the novel.

The film is being produced by Clément Miserez and Matthieu Warter at Radar Films, a Mediawan company.

Production is expected to begin on Quasimodo this summer in France. Stay tuned.

Sasha Lane (Hellboy 2019) and Elias Kacavas (“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”) have been cast in the satirical horror-thriller Corporate Retreat, Variety reports.

They join an ensemble that includes Lilly Krug (Plane), Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction), Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Simona Tabasco (“The White Lotus”), and Odeya Rush (Goosebumps).

Described as “a gory mix of The Menu and Saw,” the film centers around a group of corporate executives whose team-bonding trip turns into a bloody fight for survival against a vengeful retreat leader.

Currently in production in Los Angeles, Aaron Fisher (Inside the Rain) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Kerri Lee Romeo.

Uri Singer (White Noise, Experimenter) is producing via his Passage Pictures.

“We are really happy to bring Sasha and Elias onboard,” said Singer. “This cast is so incredible – we can’t wait for audiences to see them all together onscreen.”

M3GAN may be positioned as the hero in M3GAN 2.0, but as the clip below shows, she’s still deadly — and creepy.

“Is she really evil or just doing what she was taught to do? Going back and retreading what we did in the first movie didn’t make any sense,” director Gerard Johnstone told IGN. “Giving her a redemption arc just made sense. But at the same time, we’re not sure if we can trust her. That’s part of the ongoing mystery of the movie – is this all a long con?”

The sequel to the 2023 hit slays into theaters on June 27 from Universal.

Johnstone and writer Akela Cooper are back for the follow-up along with producers James Wan of Atomic Monster and Jason Blum of Blumhouse.

Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Amie Donald, and Jenna Davis return to star, alongside Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement.

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady, now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

The original classic Puppet Master is back on VHS with an official release from Full Moon, and the company is promising “extra footage not seen in any previous North American release.”

Additionally, the new VHS release contains the “rare UNCUT version” of the 1989 cult classic, with the limited edition run of VHS tapes now up for grabs for $34.95 while supplies last.

The first 100 units will be signed by Charles Band, Full Moon also notes.

In a remote inn, Alex Whittaker (Paul LeMat) and three other gifted psychics are investigating rumors that the secret of life has been discovered by the mysterious master puppeteer Andre Toulon (William Hickey). But the psychics quickly discover Toulon’s secret of death in the form of five killer puppets…each one uniquely qualified for murder and mayhem.

“Bringing much of the eeriness director David Schmoeller brought to his landmark 1979 horror film Tourist Trap,” Full Moon writes on the back of the box, “Puppet Master also injects plenty of the fairy-tale like mysticism that would evolve over the series into the plot.”
