RLJE Films has unveiled the theatrical poster for Ash, a mindbender directed by Flying Lotus (V/H/S/99, Kuso).

The Grammy winner also dropped the first single from his soundtrack, “Oxygene,” ahead of the full album’s release on March 19.

Written by Jonni Remmler, Ash opens in theaters on March 21. It’s expected to stream on Shudder later in the year.

Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) star in the sci-fi horror film alongside Iko Uwais (The Raid), Beulah Koale (Shadow in the Cloud), Kate Elliott (“Xena: Warrior Princess”), and Flying Lotus.

On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.

Nate Bolotin (The Raid, Mandy) and Mathew Metcalfe produce, while filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9) serves as an executive producer.

Cartuna and Dweck Productions are joining forces for a new distribution venture labeled Cartuna x Dweck, and they’ve together acquired North American rights to Grace Glowicki’s Dead Lover following its Texas premiere at SXSW. While no date has been set, the press release details this morning, the film’s release will definitely include a theatrical rollout.

In Dead Lover, Glowicki stars as a lonely gravedigger who stinks of corpses. When she finally meets her dream man (Ben Petrie), their whirlwind affair is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea. Grief-stricken, she goes to morbid lengths to resurrect him through madcap scientific experiments, resulting in grave consequences and unlikely love.

The screenplay was co-written with Petrie and also stars Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow, and is produced by Glowicki, Petrie, and Yona Strauss. Matthew Miller, Olivia Nieuwland, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Rhianon Jones and Tristan Scott Behrends of Neon Heart Productions serve as Executive Producers.

“We firmly believe that we are at the early stages of a historic creative movement,” says James Belfer, founder and CEO of Cartuna. “Inventive, boundary-pushing storytellers need more distribution support now than ever. Dead Lover is the sophomore feature from writer, director, and star Grace Glowicki.

The filmmaker told Bloody Disgusting earlier this year, “I’d say that the inspiration [for Dead Lover] is probably Monty Python, Mel Brooks, cartoons, exploitation movies, my love of theater. A mashup of those different inspos.” Glowicki added during our chat, “I’ve become addicted to the freedom that I feel inside this niche genre of practical horror/comedy.”

Fresh off the film’s premiere at Sundance, where it made headlines after making one person in the audience vomit, the Norwegian body horror movie The Ugly Stepsister now has a release date from IFC Films and Shudder. The darkly entertaining fairy tale horror film from Norwegian writer and director Emilie Blichfeldt will release in theaters on April 18, 2025.

A sinister twist on the classic Cinderella story, The Ugly Stepsister follows Elvira (Lea Myren) as she prepares to earn the prince’s affection at any cost.

In a kingdom where beauty is a brutal business, Elvira will compete with the beautiful and enchanting Agnes (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) to become the belle of the ball.

The Ugly Stepsister marks the feature debut from Norwegian writer and director Emilie Blichfeldt, and stars Lea Myren and Thea Sofie Loch Næss alongside Ane Dahl Torp.

“The Ugly Stepsister turns a classic fairytale inside out with twisted depictions of shocking burlesque body horror at its best,” said Shudder’s Emily Gotto. “Emilie Blichfeldt’s first time feature is an astonishing accomplishment and we’re proud to debut her film on Shudder.”

Stephen King’s killer canine is coming back to life, with Deadline reporting this afternoon that Netflix and producer Roy Lee (IT) are developing a brand new Cujo movie.

The project “will go out to writers immediately,” Deadline notes in today’s report.

No other information has been announced at this time. Stay tuned for more.

Stephen King’s horror novel Cujo was originally published in 1981, with director Lewis Teague’s classic horror movie adaptation being unleashed just two years later in 1983. Dee Wallace, Ed Lauter, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and Danny Pintauro starred in the original adaptation of Cujo, wherein a friendly St. Bernard contracts rabies and embarks on a reign of terror.

Here’s the full synopsis for King’s novel: “Outside a peaceful town in central Maine, a monster is waiting. Cujo is a two-hundred-pound Saint Bernard, the best friend Brett Camber has ever had. One day, Cujo chases a rabbit into a cave inhabited by sick bats and emerges as something new altogether.

“Meanwhile, Vic and Donna Trenton, and their young son Tad, move to Maine. They are seeking peace and quiet, but life in this small town is not what it seems…

“As Tad tries to fend off the terror that comes to him at night from his bedroom closet, and as Vic and Donna face their own nightmare of a marriage on the rocks, there is no way they can know that a monster, infinitely sinister, waits in the daylight.”

It was announced ten years ago that Sunn Classic Pictures was behind a new Cujo adaptation titled C.U.J.O. (“Canine Unit Joint Operations”), but that project never got off the ground.

Stephen King recently returned to the world of Cujo for a short story sequel titled Rattlesnakes. The long-awaited follow-up tale debuted in last year’s King anthology You Like It Darker. From Untouchables Entertainment and director Glenn Douglas Packard (Pitchfork), the upcoming The Dark Domain: Mickey vs. Winnie pits twisted versions of Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh up against each other, and the teaser trailer was released yesterday.

The upcoming horror film “follows two convicts in the 1920s who escape into a cursed forest only to be dragged and consumed into the depths of the dark forest’s muddy heart.”

“A century later, a group of thrill-seeking friends unknowingly venture into the same woods. Their Airbnb getaway takes a horrifying turn when the convicts mutate into twisted versions of childhood icons Mickey Mouse & Winnie-The-Pooh, and emerge to terrorize them. A night of violence and gore erupts, as the group of friends battle against their now monstrous beloved childhood characters and fight to break free from the forest’s grip.

“In a horrific spectacle, Mickey and Winnie clash, painting the woods in a gruesome tableau of blood—a chilling testament to the curse’s insidious power.”

Dark Mickey is played by Daniel Wilkinson, with Dark Winnie played by Chris Boudreaux.

“I love that we can take these iconic childhood characters from A.A. Milne’s original Winnie-the-Pooh and the 1928 Steamboat Willie version of Mickey and create a whole new wicked universe,” Packard said in a statement this week. “Our film is like the Upside Down World, with these public domain icons getting into a horror smackdown akin to Freddy vs. Jason.”
