What better place to draw inspiration for an exorcism movie than The Bible?
Unholy Song ties back to the Miracle of the Gadarene Swine, an exorcism performed by Jesus Christ as chronicled in the New Testament.
After releasing an evil witch from its cursed tape, a landlord and his two new renters must confront their fears and skepticism to cast the entity in the back into the bones of the swine – and forever trap the evil under the original spell.
Written and directed by Arthur G. Night, the indie horror film will be released in select theaters on February 28.
Jessica K. Chaves, Christopher Orozco, Quint Gabriel, Sean Gestl, and Eric Parkinson star.
“It’s hard for a low-budget indie thriller to compete with the $50-million+ major studio releases,” says Parkinson. “But we think Unholy Song is a pretty cool film, and we’ve already seen terrific audience responses.”

Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) will star in The Night House for producer Steven Schneider (Insidious, Paranormal Activity, Split).
Not to be confused with David Bruckner‘s 2020 film of the same name, The Night House is based on the 2023 novel by Jo Nesbø, whose work was previously adapted in 2007’s The Snowman.
Tremblay and Paul will play different aged versions of the protagonist, Richard, in the psychological horror film. It’s set to shoot this summer in Álava, Spain.
In the wake of his parents’ recent death, high schooler Richard has been sent to live with relatives in the remote town of Ballantyne. One day, during an innocent prank call in a phone booth, Richard shockingly witnesses his classmate violently get sucked into the phone receiver and disappear without a trace.
Police suspect Richard to be responsible, and no one believes his story except Karen, a fellow teenage outsider. As Richard and Karen try to understand their friend’s unspeakable death, they soon realize they have unleashed terrifying evil forces. As reality starts to blur, can Richard even trust himself?
Nesbø co-wrote the screenplay with Jesper Ganslandt (“Snabba Cash”), who will direct. Schneider is producing with Hope Studios’ Fredrik Wikström Nicastro (A Man Called Otto).
“I couldn’t have wished for better actors than Jacob and Aaron to headline this film,” said Ganslandt. “We also happen to share the same goal, which is turning this into a seriously disturbing psychological horror movie, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!”

WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group are co-repping the film’s US rights, while Protagonist Pictures is launching international sales at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Tremblay can next be seen in Mike Flanagan‘s adaptation of Life of Chuck, due out on May 30, and Macon Blair‘s reboot of The Toxic Avenger, releasing unrated on August 29. Meanwhile, Paul stars in Flying Lotus‘ sci-fi horror film Ash, opening March 21.

Fresh off the success of his Netflix thriller Carry-On, Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan, The Shallows) has set up his next project, a survival thriller titled Play Dead.
Deadline reports that while the plot synopsis is under wraps at this time, Jaume Collet-Serra’s Play Dead is being described by sources as “Don’t Breathe meets 1917.”
Don’t Breathe is of course the intense home invasion horror movie directed by Fede Alvarez, while 1917 is the Sam Mendes-directed British war movie from back in 2019.
The implication here is that Play Dead is some kind of home invasion movie with a wartime setting, but that’s purely speculation based on what little we’re being told here.

Well Go USA Entertainment has picked up the North American rights to Shaman, Deadline reports today, a possession horror movie set in a remote Ecuadorian village.
Shaman will be released sometime in mid-2025, the site notes.
Sara Canning (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Daniel Gillies (The Originals), and Jett Klyne (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) star in the upcoming horror film.
“Shaman follows a missionary (Canning) as she and her husband (Gillies) seek to convert an Indigenous community in a remote Ecuadorian village. After a confrontation with the local shaman whose beliefs clash with her own, the missionary’s son (Klyne) is seemingly possessed by an ancient spirit.
“Forced to confront her faith and a demon older than her own religion, she must make an impossible choice that could either save her son or curse their souls.”
Antonio Negret directed the film, written by Daniel Negret.
Night Tree, Epopeya Films, and Macumba Films produced Shaman.
