In addition to next year’s sequel M3GAN 2.0, arriving in theaters June 27, 2025, the M3GAN Universe will also be expanding with a spinoff horror movie titled SOULM8TE!

Deadline reports today that the upcoming SOULM8TE is being billed as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist,” and it’s coming to theaters on January 2, 2026.

Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) will direct the film.

Deadline details in their report today, “Dolan rewrote an original draft written by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), with the story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan.”

In SOULM8TE, a man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness,” Dolan said in a statement this afternoon. “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”

“SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view,” said James Wan, who produces through his company Atomic Monster.

M3GAN was a massive viral hit for Blumhouse back in 2022, the film scaring up $180 million at the worldwide box office. It’s no secret why Blumhouse is all-in on all things M3GAN.

John Woo‘s 1989 action-thriller The Killer is getting a “reimagining” from Woo himself, and IGN reveals this afternoon that the brand new movie is coming to Peacock August 23.

Additionally, IGN has shared a few images from the film. Check out Nathalie Emmanuel (The Invitation) and Omar Sy (Jurassic World) in the shot above and see more on IGN.

IGN details, “Nathalie Emmanuel [stars] as Zee, a mysterious and infamous assassin known, and feared, in the Parisian underworld as the Queen of the Dead.

“But when, during an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handler Finn (Sam Worthington), Zee refuses to kill a blinded young woman, Jenn (Diana Silvers), in a Paris nightclub, the decision will disintegrate Zee’s alliances, attract the attention of a savvy police investigator Sy (Omar Sy), and plunge her into a sinister criminal conspiracy that will set her on a collision course with her own past.”

Action auteur John Woo returns to reimagine and re-direct his own classic with the brand new movie, written by Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell (10 Cloverfield Lane), as well as Eran Creevy (Welcome to the Punch, Collide) and Brian Helgeland (42, Legend).

Written and directed by John Woo, the original The Killer starred Chow Yun-Fat as Ah Jong, “a disillusioned assassin who accepts one last hit in hopes of using his earnings to restore vision to a singer he accidentally blinded.”

A remake of The Killer starring Lupita Nyong’o was recently announced, but Woo had updated back in 2019 that Nyong’o was off the project and the script was being reworked.

Three horror powerhouses are coming together for The Monkey, an adaptation of the Stephen King story produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins (Longlegs).

NEON will likely release The Monkey sometime in 2025, but what can you expect from Osgood Perkins’ take on the classic King story? For starters, it’s NOTHING like Longlegs.

Perkins tells Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast this week, “It’s gonna feel more like Misery or Creepshow or Gremlins or American Werewolf. It couldn’t be LESS like Longlegs. To me, if you’re gonna make a movie about a toy monkey, you can be serious about it. But so much of King is funny and nostalgic feeling. So we tried to make a movie that felt a little bit more like something from the late ’80s – ’90s. It’s sorta like, if Robert Zemeckis had just like a LITTLE bit of acid and made a Stephen King picture about a monkey toy.”

“For me, ideally it’s the movie that kids and their parents wanna go see together,” Perkins continues. “People blow up, people explode; it’s very extreme but it’s very funny. It’s very father-son redemption, it’s very touching, it’s very nostalgic, it’s very Stephen King.”

“The fact that I’ve had his seal of approval from the top, given the fact that I’ve really invented a new thing, is exciting,” Perkins adds. “The success we’ve had with Longlegs has been astonishing and The Monkey being a COMPLETELY different movie, a COMPLETELY different movie in every possible way, is really exciting to me to see what’s gonna happen.”

The Monkey is a short horror story that appeared in Skeleton Crew, a 1985 collection that also featured The Mist, The Jaunt, The Raft, Survivor Type, The Reach, and more.

Theo James (The White Lotus) stars alongside Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Elijah Wood (Maniac), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel, the upcoming Longlegs) wrote the screenplay for the feature film adaptation and he also directed the upcoming movie.

“In The Monkey, when twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.

“But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.”

James Wan is producing with Atomic Monster partner Michael Clear (M3GAN), and C2 Motion Picture Group’s Jason Cloth (Joker) and Dave Caplan (Babylon).

Adam MacDonald (Backcountry, Pyewacket) is back this year with Out Come the Wolves, a survival horror movie that has received an official rating from the MPA this week.

The upcoming Out Come the Wolves is rated “R” for…

“Violent content/grisly images and language.”

Out Come the Wolves will be distributed by IFC Films and Shudder in the US with levelFILM releasing in Canada. It’s expected sometime later this year. Stay tuned for a release date.

The film follows a woman (Missy Peregrym) who brings her fiancé (Damon Runyan) to her secluded cabin deep in the wilderness to meet her male best friend (Joris Jarsky). While there, tensions between the two men rise, prior to them setting off on a deer hunt that descends into the darkest side of nature, leaving a truly terrifying trail of horror.

The screenplay was written by Enuka Okuma with the story by Joris Jarsky, Adam MacDonald and Enuka Okuma.

Adam MacDonald is a writer/director, born in Montreal, now residing in Toronto. His directorial feature-length debut, Backcountry had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it was represented by Cinetic Media and bought by IFC Films. At TIFF, The Globe and Mail and NOW Magazine named MacDonald to their top Canadian talents to watch lists. His second feature Pyewacket (2017) also had its world premiere at TIFF, where it was represented by Seville International and released by IFC Films.

His first television credit was successfully helming the entire third season of Aaron Martin’s “Slasher: Solstice” for Netflix. Adam went on to direct season four of “Slasher” starring David Cronenberg and the upcoming season five for AMC’s Shudder. MacDonald recently completed directing the first virtual reality horror movie experience for Meta entitled Be Mine which was written and produced by Eli Roth and starring Peyton List.

Out Come the Wolves is produced by High Park Entertainment in association with December Films.

Director Gino McKoy describes the upcoming Lumina as a film that explores “the psychological effect of losing someone to an alien abduction,” and it’s coming to theaters this summer.

You’ll be able to experience the abduction for yourself in theaters July 12, 2024.

“A terrifying sci-fi thrill ride, Lumina follows four friends desperately searching for their abductee friend in a DEEP UNDERGROUND MILITARY BASE. Whether they find their friend or not, what they find in the desert of the US to the sands of the Sahara, will change their lives forever.”

In his feature directing debut, Gino McKoy leads a cast that includes Eric Roberts, Rupert Lazarus, Eleanor Williams, Andrea Tivadar, Sidney Nicole Rogers, Ken Lawson, and Emily Hall.

“PATRICIA, a free-spirited Nubian hippie and amateur videographer, is staying at the house of her rich friend, ALEX, who decides to throw a party that will reunite old friends and introduce them to his new girl, TATIANA. The night seems destined for drama when he invites DELILAH, an old girlfriend who doesn’t hide her feelings for him. Despite the tension running through the celebration, the night goes off without a hitch.

“Everything changes with the sudden appearance of blinding lights from the sky. One second they’re there, the next they’re gone, and the only thing for sure is that Tatiana has disappeared.

“Months go by, during which Alex’s mental state deteriorates. He’s joins an online community of conspiracy theorists and UFO watchers and has even reached out to GEORGE, an old acquaintance whose beliefs demand a matching tin foil hat. Worried about him, Patricia calls Delilah. After a recent falling out Delilah has been reluctant to come by, but jumps at the opportunity to worm her way back into his life.

“Alex is convinced he must find Tatiana and he believes she’s in a DUMB. After an intensely vivid dream about Tatiana being held captive there. The four friends set out on a trip that will change some lives and take others. After being hunted by alien menaces, tracked by the government, and chased by lights in the sky, they quickly realize that they have gotten themselves in too deep.”

Gino McKoy said in a statement, “My heart has always been in the stars and space. Lumina was one of the toughest filmmaking journeys of my career and was also my debut film. I remember writing this movie in Florida at my family’s house. I was recovering from a movie in development hell. It was about the deep web and Bitcoin. I was the first in Hollywood to write about this topic and consulted with the FBI about it in 2010/2011. Then Lumina came…

“During my recovery, I found solace in writing Lumina. I wanted to see the psychological effect of losing someone to an alien abduction. How would it affect the people who knew that person, what would they do? I embarked or shall I say I went down the rabbit hole of conspiracies and alien abductions but I came out of it much more informed. Normally a topic like this is met with ridicule and laughter and, in some instances, passive-aggressive behavior toward people who claim to have experienced this phenomenon.

“We shot during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic from October 2020 to January 2021 in Morocco. Before shooting, our fellow producer almost died in a plane crash in the Colorado mountains, while he was on his way to visit us in Los Angeles. The problems snowballed, from an unscrupulous service producer in Morocco to losing my entire cast and having to recast in one week, to my DP being locked in the UK and unable to travel because of the second wave of COVID, to myself almost dying of food poisoning in Marrakech during pre-production. Lumina was a movie within a movie or the equivalent of shooting 10 Hollywood films.

“However, with all that said, abductions are real and millions experience this every year throughout the world. The stigma surrounding this has kept many from revealing the truth, but I spoke to the few who would talk. It was compelling to hear US Marines and other people in various sectors of society share their truth.

“Vindication for those ridiculed about their alien abduction stories happened in 2024 with the US congressional hearings of three former military officials under oath. Lumina is about the journey of a group of friends trying to find the truth and true storytelling at its core. If you are not emotionally attached to the characters in a movie, then it’s not worth watching or telling that story. Movies are emotions and through those emotions, we hope to find the truth and also enjoy living in that moment in time.

“Some say it’s Hollywood but is it Hollywood or art imitating real life and real abductions.”
