Nothing can prepare you for We Need to Talk About Kevin, the festival smash hit now streaming on SCREAMBOX.

From director Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here) the grim psychological thriller stars Tilda Swinton (Constantine, Suspiria, Only Lovers Left Alive), John C. Reilly (Kong: Skull Island), and Ezra Miller (Flash).

In the film, “Eva Khatchadourian (Swinton) is a travel writer/publisher who gives up her beloved freedom and bohemian lifestyle to have a child with her husband, Franklin (Reilly). Pregnancy does not seem to agree with Eva, but what’s worse, when she does give birth to a baby boy named Kevin, she can’t seem to bond with him. When Kevin grows from a fussy, demanding toddler (Rocky Duer) into a sociopathic teen (Miller), Eva is forced to deal with the aftermath of her son’s horrific act.”

Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, mother!, No Hard Feelings) is on board to both produce and star in The Wives for A24 and Apple, The Hollywood Reporter informs us today.

Apple and A24 will co-produce the film, which is said to be a murder-mystery.

THR details, “Plot details are being kept in the body bag, but it is described as being partly inspired by the Real Housewives franchise, which focuses on the soap operatic and over-the-top theatrics of well-to-do women in cities ranging from Orange County to Miami to Atlanta.”

Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley wrote the screenplay.

Producers also include Justine Ciarrocchi, Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey.

You can’t see them, but they see everything in director Ishana Night Shyamalan’s feature debut, The Watchers. And if you missed The Watchers in theaters, you can watch at home as soon as next week.

The Watchers opened in theaters on June 7 and will be available on premium video on demand on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Warner Bros. Discovery also revealed in the press release for the film’s at home streaming release that The Watchers will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 27.

The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.

The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Oliver Finnegan (“Creeped Out”), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman).

The mystery-horror film is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer. The Watchers is based on the novel by A.M. Shine.

Joining writer/director Shyamalan behind the camera are director of photography Eli Arenson (“Lamb,” “Hospitality”), production designer Ferdia Murphy (“Lola,” “Finding You”), editor Job ter Burg (“Benedetta,” “Elle”) and costume design by Frank Gallacher (“Sebastian,” “Aftersun”). The music is by Abel Korzeniowski (“Till,” “The Nun”).

I wrote in my review, “It’s too gentle of a grim fairy tale, even one with a PG-13 rating, too lean, and too familiar. Of all the Irish folktales, The Watcher sticks with the most well-trodden.“ In other words, expect more of a gateway horror movie or bedtime story.

You can preorder The Watchers on PVOD now on Prime Video, VUDU (aka Fandango at Home) and AppleTV+. It’s currently listed for preorder on ultra HD for $24.99, look for it to arrive at home next week.

Originally announced as “Dexter: Origins,” Showtime’s prequel series is now titled “Dexter: Original Sin,” and Variety has announced that Patrick Dempsey (Thanksgiving) will star.

The website details, “He is set to portray Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide who has a decades-long relationship with Christian Slater’s Harry Morgan.”

Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone), and Molly Brown (Senior Year) will also star in the upcoming series, with Gibson playing the young version of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan.

James Martinez also stars as Angel Batista, alongside Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.

“Dexter: Original Sin” is set in 1991 Miami and revolves around Dexter (Gibson) as he goes from student to avenging serial killer. With guidance from his father, Harry (Slater), Dexter adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people without being discovered by law enforcement at the same time as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

“Dexter” showrunner Clyde Phillips will also be showrunning the prequel series.

Executive producers for “Dexter: Original Sin” include Phillips, Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Robert Lloyd Lewis, and Michael Lehmann.
