Fangoria Studios and Panick Studios are turning horror comic Black Diamond into a film, and Variety reports that Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight) will direct.

Black Diamond comic book creator Brendan Columbus will write the screenplay.

Black Diamond follows Owen and Victoria Welch on a family ski trip that spirals into a nightmare. When their son is abducted by a mysterious cult, the couple is pushed to the brink and faced with a soul-crushing ultimatum: sacrifice another child or lose their own forever.

The comic book series from Panick Entertainment is described as a “chilling folk horror thriller blending Hitchcockian psychological tension with the dread of The Wicker Man.”

“Black Diamond was my attempt to put everything I love about thrillers on the page,” Columbus tells Variety. “I want to make sure it feels like you physically can’t leave the theater or else you’ll miss the next twist or turn. With his masterful cinematic eye and his great story sense, Ernest is going to scare the hell out of everyone with this one.”

“Black Diamond immediately grabbed me because its horror is rooted in impossible human choices,” says Dickerson. “It taps into parental fear, morality, isolation, and survival in a way that is so unsettling and emotionally real. That combination will make for a very suspenseful and exciting cinematic experience.”

Ernest Dickerson is directing and executive producing the feature film. Black Diamond will notably be Ernest Dickerson’s first feature film as director since Double Play in 2017, though he has in more recent years been directing for an impressive string of television shows including “The Man in the High Castle,” “The Purge,” “Raised by Wolves,” “Bosch,” and “DMZ.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come) is the Grim Reaper and Rudy Pankow (“Outer Banks”) is the Devil in supernatural romance Thud, Deadline reports this week.

Mali Elfman (Next Exit) is directing the film, with Radio Silence producing.

Deadline details, “Based on an original screenplay by Noga Pnueli (Meet Cute), Thud watches as the Grim Reaper and the Devil meet cute at a three-day destination wedding, falling in love after colliding at the event, where they’ve each come to sow their own chaos.”

Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are producing Thud for Radio Silence. The project marks a reunion between the filmmaking team and Sarah Michelle Gellar after Ready or Not 2.

Deadline notes that Thud will shoot in Los Angeles “with a California tax credit.”

Mali Elfman directed the animated short The Scariest Skeleton, and she’s also produced horror films including Queens of the Dead, Haunting of Queen Mary, and Birth/Rebirth.

Mali Elfman is the daughter of legendary composer/musician Danny Elfman.

A dark and gothic reimagining of Shakespeare’s iconic villainess, Ava Reid’s novel Lady Macbeth is getting a feature film adaptation from Curious Gremlin (The Testament Of Ann Lee) and Take a Trip Media. Deadline reports that Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct.

Oscar nominee Emma Donoghue (Room) will write the screenplay.

The gothic feminist retelling of William Shakespeare’s classic play “reimagines one of literature’s most enduring figures through a dark, intimate lens, following a young noblewoman thrust into a politically arranged marriage in a brutal medieval world.

“As she navigates survival, power, and identity within a system designed to constrain her, her transformation unfolds into a portrait of ambition, resilience, and consequence.”

Curious Gremlin’s Sinan Eczacibasi said in a statement, “At Curious Gremlin, we have always aimed to share our excitement for telling fresh, bold, and daring stories that trust their audience to embrace new perspectives and sit with complexity. In that spirit, Ava Reid’s Lady Macbeth — a ferocious reimagining of the timeless Scottish Play from a fresh and surprisingly overlooked lens — adapted for the big screen by Emma Donoghue, with Kari Skogland in the director’s seat, feels like a natural fit for us.”

Director Luke Sparke brought dinosaurs back to life on screen in last year’s Vietnam horror movie Primitive War, and he’s now teasing a brand new dinosaur project this week.

Coming soon from Luke Sparke? Dinosaurs of the Wild West!

Inspired by the artwork of creator Shaun Keenan and expanded into an original cinematic universe by filmmaker Luke Sparke, the project blends western frontier mythology with a world where dinosaurs and humans have existed side by side for generations.

The brief teaser this week offers only a glimpse of the world and marks the project’s public debut ahead of the official Kickstarter campaign that’s scheduled to launch on July 7, 2026.

“This is an opportunity for dinosaur enthusiasts, Primitive War fans and cinema buffs to be a part of the production process and create something the world has never seen. We want to create something that feels completely fresh while still capturing the sense of wonder and adventure that first made us fall in love with dinosaur stories,” said Sparke.

Along with a new feature adaptation of the short film Alone Time, Dolly director Rod Blackhurst also has found footage horror movie Hedges on the way.

The filmmaker unveiled the new teaser and poster, both below, on social media.

In Hedges, “A man secretly records his wife as she loses her grip on reality. But the cameras reveal much more than he expected.“

Blackhurst also teased more about the Nashville-shot film on FB, citing favorites like The Poughkeepsie Tapes and Noroi as examples of authenticity. ” I like found footage that feels ‘possible‘, like it really could have happened, and with a reason why the footage (aka evidence) came to exist and why it’s been presented to us now in this form,” he writes.

To achieve that plausible feeling, Blackhurst revealed that he “had actors live in a house for two weeks and everything they did/experienced was captured on cameras.“
