When it was recently announced that the original filmmakers and stars of The Blair Witch Project had been invited to join the filmmaking team for the upcoming Blumhouse reboot movie, one name was notably missing from the lineup: Heather Donahue (aka Rei Hance), who of course played Heather in the original found footage horror classic back in 1999.

While Original Blair Witch Project filmmakers Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Gregg Hale, and stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams will executive produce the upcoming movie, Heather Donahue has made the decision to NOT be involved with the project.

Donahue explains in a Facebook comment this week, “There seems to be some willful confusion about my involvement with the reboot. I want to clarify that I am not participating.”

“I was offered an agreement that, for me personally, raised difficult long-term questions about rights, future technological use of identity and voice, the ability to speak freely, and compensation. Ultimately, it just wasn’t something I felt comfortable signing,” Donahue explains. “I genuinely wish everyone involved well.”

Donahue adds, “But preserving my autonomy mattered more to me.”

Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) is set to direct the new take on the seminal found footage horror movie, and producer Jason Blum recently teased that it’s expected sometime in 2027.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Atomic Monster‘s James Wan are producing the new Blair Witch Project with Roy Lee and Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath.

According to Deadline, Blair Witch‘s return “will deal with a family that goes on a camping trip but goes missing one by one after they hear strange noises in the forest.”

Much like David F. Sandberg, Curry Barker, and Kane Parsons before him, Dylan Clark was discovered on YouTube after going viral with his horror short Portrait of God. That short is already being expanded into a feature, with Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi producing.

A strange neighbor’s forboding words act as an ominous warning for the experimental time-traveling voyage ahead in our exclusive clip from Rose of Nevada.

Rose of Nevada opens in New York and Los Angeles theaters on June 19, 2026.

Watch the exclusive clip below, which sees the disoriented Mrs. Richards (Mary Woodvine) accost Nick Dyer (George MacKay), suggesting she knows him from her past, before he embarks on a trip to sea that will change everything.

In the film, “Three decades ago, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea, along with its crew. Now, it has returned. In a remote fishing village, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay), desperate to provide for his young family, and Liam (Callum Turner), a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage, they return to harbor, only to find that nothing is as they remember it.”

Edward Rowe, Francis Magee, Rosaline Eleazar, and Adrian Rawlins also star.

Written, directed, edited, and scored by Mark Jenkin, Rose and Nevada closes out the filmmaker’s Cornish trilogy that also includes shot-on-film folk horror nightmare Enys Men and 2019’s Bait. All three films in the experimental series are set along the Cornish coast and were shot on a 16mm Bolex camera.

It’s also worth noting that Woodvine, who appears in the below clip in effective age makeup, and Rowe also starred in the trilogy’s previous installments.

The film is described as a “hallucinatory time-travel mystery.” The press release notes, “Jenkin conducts a cinematic séance, conjuring a portal into another world that forces us to confront the past and our relationship to it.”

It was over 10 years ago that director Anthony C. Ferrante introduced the world to Sharknado, a viral phenomenon that launched a franchise. Ferrante has continued to play around in the shark attack genre ever since, and he’s back with new movie Water Park Shark.

Al Kratina wrote the screenplay for the upcoming shark attack movie.

The cast also includes Matthew Dame, Kacie Patricia, Michael Shaun Sandy, Snow Feng, Hector Becerra, Brigdon York, Rob Eubanks, Camilla Bastos, and Giovanna McMaster.

The hosts of the mega popular YouTube series Dead Meat have joined the cast of upcoming horror-comedy Best Friends Forever, Variety reports this morning.

James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca have joined the cast alongside Aristotle Athari (“Saturday Night Live”), Ally Maki (“Toy Story 4”), Zac Oyama (“Game Changer”), and Lynley Eilers.

The previously announced cast includes Bobby Moynihan (“Saturday Night Live”), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), Kimia Behpoornia (“Abbott Elementary”), Eliza Bennett (“Dynasty”), Jessie Ennis (“Mythic Quest”), Aparna Nancherla (A Simple Favor), Esther Povitsky (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), and Rekha Shankar (“Between Two Ferns: The Movie”).

The horror comedy follows the bachelorette party reunion of five high school friends as they become exposed to toxic positivity-turned-supernatural and begin to turn against each other. The film explores the things we don’t say and all the things we don’t show, as women, to our friends.

Liz Manashil will direct from a script she co-wrote with Amy Taylor.

Filmmakers Emily Hagins (Scare Package), Ted Geoghegan (We Are Still Here), and Carter Smith (The Ruins) serve as associate producers for the upcoming Best Friends Forever.
