Set four years before Never Hike Alone, the story follows a group of hikers who get lost in a mysterious fog and stumble into the cursed grounds where the Ghost of Crystal Lake awaits. Will they escape the wrath of Jason, or become the latest in a long list of lost victims?
The final call fundraiser for the animated film is live on Kickstarter now.
Womp Stomp Films previews the 10-minute fan film, “The film features 2D animation with 3D environments by Mako Animation, presented in black and white with bold splashes of red and yellow—stylistically inspired by Sin City.” The team also teases, “Ghosts in the Fog will feature 3 unique animated kill sequences that push the limits of gore in the Friday the 13th universe—bringing a whole new dimension of terror to the screen!”
“Ghosts in the Fog is the first time Jason Voorhees has ever been featured in an animated story based on Friday the 13th,” says Vincente DiSanti, who co-directed with Juan Rivera.
The original Never Hike Alone fan film launched back in 2017 at a time when the actual Friday the 13th franchise was still mired in a legal mess. It’s one of the most popular horror franchise fan films ever made, subsequently spawning follow-ups from the same team.
This production is an independent effort by Womp Stomp Films, LLC, and its volunteer collaborators. Never Hike Alone is a work of fan fiction. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representative of Viacom/Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Jason Un1v3rse, Horror Inc., or the Friday the 13th franchise and its characters.

Genre favorites Terry Kiser (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S), Andrew Hubatsek (Pet Sematary), and Lynn Lowry (Shivers) will face The Malakai, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned.
Daniel John Kearney and Lucas Dunaway lead the indie horror film as a couple caught in the wreckage of a deeply fractured relationship, fueled by the fog of alcoholism, who return to a rural Kentucky town to finalize the sale of their rental home.
As the layers of their story are peeled back, they inadvertently awaken a horrific legend that makes its presence known. In a place where time feels stagnant and the atmosphere is heavy with unspoken truths, the duo stumbles into a series of events that are as bizarre as they are spine-chilling.
Kearney writes and directs the “deeply experimental creature feature,” driven by a reoccurring nightmare that has haunted him his entire life.
Jason Crowe, Jeremy Hirsch, Danny Langston, Jeff Descoteaux, and Lisa Hinds round out the cast. Black Ave Films and Stag Mountain Films produce.
“The subtext of The Malakai is rooted in the horrors that can come with deep, resounding love,” Kearney tells us. “To me, true love is the most beautiful part of human nature, but it can also be an inescapable horror of the mind, body, and soul for those who misuse it. That’s real horror. We are really trying to do something unique and terrifying here — I get overwhelmed when I think about it.”
The Malakai is slated enter production in Kentucky in June.

Nina Kiri (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) stars in the acclaimed Undertone as Evy, a paranormal podcast host who moves into her dying mother’s house to be her primary caregiver.
When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural noises, Evy realizes the woman’s story mirrors her own.
Each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape.
Joe Lipsett wrote in his 4.5-skull rave review for Bloody Disgusting, “I can’t remember the last time a movie made every hair on my body stand up, but undertone got me good.”
An attempted police cover-up leads to mind-bending terror in Bodycam, which looks like a 75-minute V/H/S segment. The found footage movie is now streaming on Shudder and AMC+.
Bodycam is told from the perspective of police body cameras.

The Gates follows three college students on a road trip gone wrong.
The trio takes an ill-advised shortcut through a remote gated community, where they find themselves trapped after witnessing a murder. Over the course of the night, they are blamed, hunted and fractured by their own differing belief systems, while the perpetrator (Van Der Beek) emerges as the cunning patriarch who holds the entire community under his influence.
John Burr (Muse) wrote and directed.
The Gates is rated R for “violence, language, some sexual references, and brief drug use.”
Folklore and reality blur in Red Riding, executive produced by genre favorite Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent). The film was unleashed on VOD outlets at home today.
Craig Conway — who appeared in Marshall’s The Descent, Dog Soldiers, and Doomsday — directs the reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood from a script by Peter Stylianou.
In the film, after her mother’s overdose, troubled teen Redele Riding is sent from her London council estate to live with her estranged aristocratic grandmother in the Scottish Highlands.
At first, Red is captivated by the grand estate, but beneath the elegance, she uncovers disturbing secrets: vanished children, whispers of a monstrous wolf stalking the woods, and a sinister control exerted by her grandmother and the menacing gamekeeper.
As folklore and reality blur, Red struggles to make sense of cryptic warnings left by her mother and a dark family legacy.
Victoria Tait stars as Redele alongside Bill Fellows (“Ted Lasso”), Ian Whyte (Alien vs. Predator), Lynsey Beauchamp, and Jack McEvoy (“Vikings”).

Regal’s Friday the 13th celebration continues with Friday the 13th Part 3 – presented in RealD 3D! – and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter back on the big screen tonight.
The theater chain screened the first two Friday the 13th installments last month, and they’ll be showing Jason Lives on the next Friday the 13th in November.
Regal also teases “something big planned to elevate the horror moviegoing experience on the final (un)lucky day in November.”
Friday the 13th Part 3 is directed by Steve Miner, written by Martin Kitrosser and Carol Watson, and stars Dana Kimmell, Paul Kratka, and Richard Brooker as Jason Voorhees.
In the 1982 slasher sequel, having revived from his wound, Jason Voorhees takes refuge at a cabin near Crystal Lake. As a group of co-eds arrive for their vacation, Jason continues his killing spree.
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is directed by Joseph Zito, written by Barney Cohen, and stars Kimberly Beck, Corey Feldman, Peter Barton, Crispin Glover, and Ted White as Jason Voorhees.
In the 1984 follow-up, after being mortally wounded and taken to the morgue, Jason Voorhees spontaneously revives and embarks on a killing spree as he makes his way back to his home at Camp Crystal Lake.

What an excellent day for an exorcism, as Mike Flanagan‘s The Exorcist has officially entered production in New York City.
“Day 1… here we go,” Flanagan wrote on Instagram.
The accompanying photo of the slate reveals that frequent Flanagan collaborator Michael Fimognari (“The Haunting of Hill House,” Doctor Sleep) is serving as director of photography on the project.
Neither a remake of William Friedkin’s 1974 horror classic nor a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, the film will tell an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe.
Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers), Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Sasha Calle (The Flash), and John Leguizamo (John Wick) star.
The cast also includes Flanagan regulars Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, and Carla Gugino.
Plot details remain under wraps, but Johansson is said to be playing a mother with Jupe as her son.
Flanagan is producing via his Red Room Pictures alongside Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Executive producers include Red Room’s Alexandra Magistro and Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek.
“This is an opportunity to do something that I believe has never been done within the franchise — something that honors what came before it but isn’t built on nostalgia,” Flanagan said of the project. “I really just saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made. I know expectations are high. No one’s more intimidated than I am.”
The Exorcist will possess theaters on March 12, 2027 via Universal.
Before that, Flanagan’s series adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie” is eying an October premiere on Prime Video. He also co-wrote DC’s comic book horror movie Clayface, releasing October 23, and he’s attached to a new take of King’s The Mist.
