‘The Piano Killer’ – Eli Roth Made a New ‘Grindhouse’ Trailer for a Faux Murder Piano Movie [Video]

Eli Roth is channeling his Grindhouse past with The Piano Killer, a new trailer for his horror studio The Horror Section that will be playing in theaters nationwide starting August 15, attached to the first theatrical release from Roth’s new company, Jimmy and Stiggs.

The team previews, “The Piano Killer trailer offers a first taste of the twisted, genre-smashing direction Eli Roth is taking with The Horror Section. Created alongside longtime collaborator Jeff Rendell (Thanksgiving), the trailer follows in the footsteps of their original Thanksgiving teaser, which famously morphed into a cult-favorite feature.

“What starts as an ordinary opening moment, turns into total mayhem…when the mystery killer turns out to be a piano. It’s absurd. It’s terrifying. And it’s exactly the kind of audacious, offbeat horror that defines The Horror Section.”

For now, it’s just a fake trailer for a Dario Argento-style Giallo movie about a killer piano. But like Thanksgiving, which started as a fake Grindhouse trailer, it could become a feature…

“I love a good fake trailer. You get to make the best parts of the movie without having to figure out the boring things like plot, character, or emotional arc. It’s pure cinematic junk food,” said Eli Roth. “I wanted to add it as a little amuse bouche before Jimmy and Stiggs. And who knows, maybe there will be a feature film in this pianoverse or I’ll just keep making Piano Killer sequel trailers for the rest of my life. That would definitely end my career on a high note.”

Eli Roth stars in The Piano Killer faux trailer alongside Hailey Kittle, Jeff Teravainen, Russell Yuen, Tomaso Sanelli, Jonathan Craig, Justin Harding, Leah Sharp, and Joe Delfin.

Grab your tickets to see Jimmy and Stiggs in theaters on August 15.

The first theatrical release from Eli Roth’s new label The Horror Section is Jimmy and Stiggs, the latest blast of insanity from director Joe Begos (Bliss, Christmas Bloody Christmas).

Haunting Psychological Thriller ‘The Plague’ Starring Joel Edgerton Acquired For Holiday 2025 Release

Independent Film Company announced today that they have acquired the North American distribution rights to The Plague, a haunting psychological thriller that dives into the realm of adolescent sports.

The Plague has been set for a limited theatrical release on December 24, 2025, expanding on January 2, 2026.

The thriller made its debut at Cannes Film Festival, where it received an 11-minute standing ovation and won the Best Sound Creation Award.

“At an all-boys water polo camp, a socially anxious twelve-year-old is pulled into a cruel tradition targeting an outcast with an illness they call ‘The Plague.’ But as the lines between game and reality blur, he fears the joke might be hiding something real,” the fest’s logline reads.

The Plague was written and directed by Charlie Polinger, making his feature debut.

It stars Joel Edgerton (The Green Knight, The Gift), who also produces, alongside newcomers Everett Blunck, Kayo Martin, and Kenny Rasmussen.

Said Director Charlie Polinger “Premiering The Plague at Cannes was a dream. I’m thrilled to share it with a wider theatrical audience through Independent Film Company, who’ve championed so many of my favorite films.”

“Independent Film Company is a perfect partner for this incredible first feature debut of Charlie Polinger and I could not be more proud to have my name in the credits of this incredible project. From script to completion this film has always had a very strong vision. Charlie is a filmmaker with a great future ahead. I’m proud to have been part of his first film along with these incredible producers and companies,” said Joel Edgerton.

Said Head of IFC Entertainment Group Scott Shooman, “ The Plague’s hypnotic and captivating psychological dive into sports, competition and adolescence is one of the most riveting debut films we’ve ever seen. The technical craftsmanship and excellent performances captured our attention and solidified our desire to collaborate on the launch of this impressive film from a talented auteur visionary.”

Look for The Plague this holiday season.
