A24 has acquired the worldwide rights to The Undertone, a slow-burn liminal horror film from Canada.

Deadline reports that a competitive bidding situation ensued following a splashy premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival last month, resulting in a mid-7-figure deal.

Paranormal podcast host Evy moves into her dying mother’s house to be her primary caregiver. When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural noises, she realizes the woman’s story mirrors her own. Each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape.

Nina Kiri (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) stars in the film, which marks the feature debut of writer-director Ian Tuason.

Kris Holden-Ried (“The Umbrella Academy”), Michèle Duquet (The Virgin Suicides), Keana Lyn Bastidas (“The Hardy Boys”), and Jeff Yung (The Shrouds) round out the cast.

Dan Slater for Slaterverse Pictures and Cody Calahan for Black Fawn Films produce. Exec producers include Steven Schneider and Roy Lee for Spooky Pictures, Chad Archibald for Black Fawn Films, Brit MacRae and Daril Fannin for Kino Studios, and DimensionGate.

Fantasia programming director Carolyn Mauricette wrote of the film, “Fans of Skinamarink and I Am the Pretty Thing Who Lives in the House will love this slow-burn nightmare that will make hackles on your neck rise and your blood chill.”

Joe Lipsett wrote in his Fantasia review, “I can’t remember the last time a movie made every hair on my body stand up, but The Undertone got me good.”

Noah Centineo (Black Adam, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) is attached to star in the titular role in John Rambo, a prequel to the First Blood franchise, sources tell Deadline.

Millennium Media (Rambo: Last Blood, The Expendables) is behind the film. Original star and co-writer Sylvester Stallone is said to be aware of the project but not currently involved.

Aiming to start shooting in early 2026 in Thailand, the origin story will follow a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War.

Jalmari Helander (Sisu, Rare Exports) is set to direct from a script by Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam, The Mauritanian).

Although no deals are in place, sources say Lionsgate is the front-runner to land the package. The studio released the two most recent Rambo pics and worked with Helander on Sisu.

Producers on the project are Kevin King-Templeton on behalf of Templeton Media, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger and Avi Lerner. Executive producers include Trevor Short and Bonfire Legends’ Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk.

The Rambo franchise launched in 1982 with First Blood, based on the novel by David Morrell. It was followed by 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II, 1988’s Rambo III, 2008’s Rambo, and 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood — all staring Stallone. It also spawned an animated series.

DC is switching up tones big time from Superman to Clayface next year, with the body horror movie set for theatrical release via Warner Bros. on September 11, 2026.

Deadline reports today that Max Minghella (Spiral: From the Book of Saw) is now in talks to join the cast, alongside the previously announced Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen) and Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice). Rhys Harries will be playing the movie’s title character.

James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) will direct from a script by Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House,” Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive).

The project is being compared to David Cronenberg’s The Fly.

The story centers on an actor who injects himself with a substance to remain relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.

James Gunn’s DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously called Clayface “an incredible body horror film that reveals a compelling origin of a classic Batman villain.”
