Vampires are all the rage this week, with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners now available at home. It’s joined by a bloody indie bloodsucker movie and even a Vietnamese vamp movie both sinking their fangs into VOD. But that’s just the start of this week’s TEN new horror releases, which also include the return of the Predator franchise with the saga’s first ever animated movie.

From Magnificent Films and Silent D Pictures, Sean Cronin’s indie vampire movie Bogieville sank its teeth into all major VOD outlets beginning this past Tuesday, June 3.

In the film, “A young couple on the run come across an American trailer park and are convinced to stay by the sinister caretaker Crawford. But they soon learn that he is in fact the guardian of the residents of Bogieville, themselves a pack of blood-thirsty vampires.”

Indonesian film star Arifin Putra (The Raid 2) and newcomer Eloise Lovell Anderson (Villain) star, along with Sean Cronin as the lead vampire Madison.

Sarina Taylor (Solitary), Poppie Jae Hughes (Our Kid), Daniel P. Lewis (Wuthering Heights), Andrew Lee Pots (The Crown) and Katie Sheridan (The Royal Nanny) also star.

Bogieville was filmed in England, and is produced by Djonny Chen for Silent D Pictures, along with Cronin for Magnificent Films. Henry P. Gravelle wrote the screenplay.

Vampire lore gets reimagined in Daydreamers, a groundbreaking genre-bender set in modern-day Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Vietnamese film is now available on VOD.

The film follows Nhat, a young vampire raised in a secluded river community that suppresses its thirst for human blood in hopes of regaining lost humanity.

When his long-lost brother Marco returns with stories of vampires thriving in the big city amongst humans, Nhat is drawn into a dangerous world that tests his loyalty, beliefs, and survival. His fate takes a turn when he meets Ha, a rebellious schoolgirl who uncovers his secret—forcing Nhat to break vampire law in an act of forbidden protection.

As Trieu, a ruthless vampire queen, orders their execution, the city erupts into chaos, setting the stage for a final battle between brothers—one embracing the monster within, the other fighting to hold onto his last shred of humanity.

Tran Ngoc Vang (Nhat), Thuan Nguyen (Marco), Trinh Thao (Ha), and Chi Pu (Trieu) star in the film that blends horror and fantasy, written and directed by Timothy Linh Bui.

One of this year’s massive success stories has been Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic Sinners, which sank its teeth into $350 million at the worldwide box office. That makes it one of the top 20 highest grossing horror movies of all time, and Sinners is now available at home!

The hunt has begun. An animated anthology movie that features three brand new original Predator stories, Predator: Killer of Killers is now streaming exclusively on Hulu.

The original animated action-adventure film follows three of the fiercest warriors in human history: a Viking raider guiding her young son on a bloody quest for revenge, a ninja in feudal Japan who turns against his Samurai brother in a brutal battle for succession, and a WWII pilot who takes to the sky to investigate an otherworldly threat to the Allied cause.

The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg with Josh Wassung, from animation company The Third Floor, serving as co-director. The film stars Lindsay LaVanchy, Louis Ozawa, Rick Gonzalez, and Michael Biehn and is written by Micho Robert Rutare and story by Trachtenberg and Rutare, based on characters created by Jim Thomas & John Thomas.

The ocean unleashes a new predator with Dangerous Animals, the new horror movie from director Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones, The Devil’s Candy). It’s now playing in theaters.

In the summer horror movie, “Trapped on a killer’s boat with hungry sharks circling below, a surfer must outwit a predator more dangerous than the ocean itself—will she escape, or become the next offering to the deep? Sean Byrne returns with his third visceral feature.”

Hassie Harrison (“Yellowstone”), Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad) and Josh Heuston (“Heartbreak High”) lead the cast of Sean Byrne’s shark movie Dangerous Animals.

Nick Lepard wrote the screenplay for Dangerous Animals, which comes courtesy of Brouhaha Entertainment, LD Entertainment, Oddfellows Entertainment, and Range Media Partners.

A campfire story becomes a living nightmare in the summer camp horror movie Marshmallow, which is now available on VOD outlets at home after a theatrical release back in April. 

“At a secluded summer camp, Morgan, a shy and introverted 12-year-old, is thrust into a living nightmare when a legendary campfire tale becomes real. As a mysterious figure begins stalking the camp, Morgan and his newfound friends must embark on a perilous journey that will force them to confront their deepest fears and question the very nature of their existence.”

Kue Lawrence (Beautiful Boy), Kai Cech (Dear Santa), Corbin Bernsen (The Dentist), and Max Malas (New Amsterdam) star in Marshmallow.

Daniel DelPurgatorio makes his feature directorial debut from a script by Andy Greskoviak (Black Friday). Robert Kurtzman (Fear Street, Black Friday) and Marcia “Marcy” King (Gerald’s Game, Black Friday, The Curse) handled the film’s special effects.

Director Ashley Cahill (Random Acts of Violence) takes us back to 1863 with the Civil War horror movie Resurrection Road, which is now available on VOD outlets.

An elite squad of six Black soldiers, led by ex-slave Barabbas, is sent on a suicide mission to infiltrate a heavily guarded Confederate fort hidden deep in the Arkansas wilderness.

Teams have been sent before, but no one has ever made it out alive…

Their objective? Destroy the fort’s long-range guns and shift the tide of the war. But as they venture further into enemy territory, the mission takes a chilling turn.

The soldiers uncover a dark and sinister secret buried within the heart of the forest—one that will test their courage, loyalty, and will to survive like never before.

Malcolm Goodwin, Furly Mac, Triana Browne, Okea Eme-Akwari, Randall J. Bacon, and Jeff Daniel Phillips star in Resurrection Road, which also features Michael Madsen.

The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) stars as an insomniac faced with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence in Lionsgate’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, now available on Digital.

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), the film stars Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. 

While Abel Tesfaye has acted in recent projects including Uncut Gems and the HBO series “The Idol,” the upcoming movie notably marks the singer’s feature debut on the big screen.

Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson teased, “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”

The true story that inspired horror classic The Exorcist comes to the screen in The Ritual from XYZ Films, and the film is now playing exclusively in movie theaters this weekend.

Sanctioned by the Church. Condemned by Satan. Based on the true story of the possession of Emma Schmidt, David Midell directs from a script he co-wrote with Enrico Natale.

Two priests, one questioning his faith and one reckoning with a troubled past, must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms. The film is said to be an authentic portrayal of the Schmidt case, which remains the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.

Ashley Greene (Twilight), Abigail Cowen (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), and Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) round out the cast of Midell’s The Ritual.

Andrew Rannells (A Simple Favor) and Nick Kroll (“The League”) have a killer Italian getaway in I Don’t Understand You, which is now playing in theaters from Vertical.

“We’re so happy moviegoers are going to get to see an old school, dark, twisted comedy on the big screen,” said writers-directors David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano.

Dom (Kroll) and Cole (Rannells), a couple on the verge of adopting a baby, embark on an Italian vacation — the perfect opportunity to reconnect before the new addition arrives.

Things begin to spiral out of control. Lost on the way to dinner, their car gets stuck in a ditch, leaving them stranded in rural nowhere during a torrential downpour. The two Americans are now in a foreign land with no cell service, zero comprehension of the Italian language, and, as fear takes over, escalating turmoil that could explode at any moment.

Celebrating 50 years of the blockbuster classic JAWS, a documentary titled The Farmer & The Shark is on the way from director John Campopiano (Pennywise: The Story of IT, Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story), first announced by Deadline today.

This particular JAWS-related documentary is taking a very interesting approach, putting the spotlight on a late Martha’s Vineyard resident by the name of Craig Kingsbury.

Campopiano tells us, “The “farmer” piece of our film is the late Craig Kingsbury, who lived a truly remarkable life. We’re telling his story within the context of the making of JAWS on Martha’s Vineyard in 1974. Craig was Robert Shaw’s inspiration for his iconic portrayal of Quint. Craig was originally hired by the production to train Shaw but because his impact was so greatly felt, Spielberg gave him the on-camera role as doomed fisherman, Ben Gardner.”

The documentary focuses on the unique influence Kingsbury had on the film, from both behind and in front of the camera. Along the way we also learn of the many Island locals whose ocean savvy and ingenuity were instrumental in transforming JAWS from a potential failure to the paradigm of the summer blockbuster.

Through conversations with Craig Kingsbury’s family members and never-before-seen interviews with the many local and Hollywood tradesmen and artisans who worked on the film, including Production Designer Joe Alves, Cameraman Michael Chapman, Tom Joyner, Kevin Pike, Jonathan Filley, Jeffrey Kramer, The Farmer & the Shark weaves a fascinating tale of how Mr. Kingsbury was reluctantly recruited by the production to help transform Mr. Shaw – through his own language and mannerisms – from a distinguished Shakespearean actor into the gruff Downeast fisherman who serves as the unforgettable heart of the film.

Leroy Street Films will premiere The Farmer & the Shark at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum on Tuesday, August 19 at 4pm.

The Farmer & the Shark is produced by Leroy Street Films in association with Atomic Clock, Witter Entertainment, and Stage 3 Productions, and also features a trove of rare and never-before-seen archive from the production. In addition, it showcases the expansive family archives of the Kingsbury family as well as historical collections from the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.

The Farmer & the Shark is directed by John Campopiano, written by Rick DiGregorio and John Campopiano, and co-written by Matthew Spry.

I Saw the TV Glow‘s score is available on vinyl for via A24. Priced at $30, it’s expected to ship late August.

The album is pressed on blue glow colored vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket with a holographic cover. A Mr. Melancholy sticker is included.

It’s composed by Alex G, who previously collaborated with writer-director Jane Schoenbrun on their debut, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

I Saw the TV Glow recently celebrated its one-year anniversary with a VHS release.

Studios and filmmakers are knocking at the door of franchise rights reps Verve to get on board with the future of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, which has gone quiet in the wake of Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in 2022. Names including J.T. Mollner and even Glen Powell have already come up, and Deadline’s got a fresh update this week.

According to the outlet’s exclusive report this afternoon, Jordan Peele, Osgood Perkins, and Taylor Sheridan are among the names vying to rev up their chainsaws.

Deadline reports, “Talks for who’ll wind up with the Texas Chainsaw IP are beginning Monday as anywhere from five to eight studios and/or streamers are vying for the rights.”

“Myriad notable creative entities have teamed up with studios to pitch Verve and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre rights holders on their vision,” Deadline’s report continues.

Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) is reportedly looking to come on board to produce a new installment, while Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions have their own take.

Osgood Perkins (The Monkey), meanwhile, would produce and co-write a new Chainsaw movie in a different package, with Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) directing that particular project. According to Deadline, the Perkins/Bertino collab would be a NEON package.

As for the package J.T. Mollner (Strange Darling) is attached to, that’s a TV project for A24 that producers Roy Lee and Glen Powell are part of. Lee is also attached to a potential separate feature film project with Netflix, Deadline also notes in today’s deep dive report.
