Writer-director Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) has announced the completion of production on their third film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
Described the film as “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13thsequel,” the horror film stars Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”) and Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”).
It follows a queer filmmaker hired to direct a new installment of a long-running slasher franchise. The director fixates on the prospect of casting the ‘final girl’ from the original movie, and the two women descend into a frenzy of psychosexual mania.
“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid,” Schoenbrun said prior to production. “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic:’ an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”
The film is expected to be released in 2026 via Mubi, which produced alongside Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

Sharks aren’t the only threat in Survive, a new shark thriller preemptively acquired by Amazon MGM Studios based on a feature pitch, Deadline reports today.
Screenwriter Ian Levy (Pay the Ghost) will pen the script.
In Survive, “a desperate mother and her 12-year-old daughter attempt to flee from her abusive boyfriend. Their escape turns into a harrowing fight for survival after a highway crash leaves them stranded on a coastal cliff, battling not only the violent man they tried to escape but also a group of sharks circling in the waters below.”
That premise seems to continue the trend established by the recent release Dangerous Animals, which sees a serial killer employ sharks as a weapon for his ritualistic murders. There’s plenty more shark horror on the way, too. Tommy Wirkola’s Shiver swims into theaters next summer, and Hatchet filmmaker Adam Green is returning to the director’s set with the shark attack movie The Ascent.
There’s an insatiable appetite for shark horror, especially as Jawsturns 50 this year.
The acquisition of Survive is part of Premeditated Productions’ first-look deal with Amazon MGM; stay tuned for additional news as it arrives.

A Canadian horror anthology series from “Slasher” creators Aaron Martin and Ian Carpenter, Shudder’s “Hell Motel” premiered today with the first two episodes of the series.
New episodes will follow weekly on Tuesdays on Shudder and AMC+.
A group of 10 true crime obsessives are invited to the opening weekend of the newly renovated Cold River Motel, the site of a 30-year-old unsolved satanic mass murder. History repeats itself when the guests get stranded and start getting knocked off one by one during a murder spree that grows exponentially more gruesome than the original with each kill.

They’re joined by Emmanuel Kabongo (“Outer Banks”) as Kawayan, a talented artist with a dark focus on murder; Jim Watson (“Transplant”) as Andy, a bookish academic at the forefront of contemporary true crime studies; and Genevieve DeGraves (“Chapelwaite”) as Adriana, a hybristophilic flight attendant with several notorious serial killer notches on her bedpost.
Drag queen Icesis Couture (“Canada’s Drag Race”) also makes a guest appearance as Magenta, a stylish real estate agent who sells the Coldwater Motel to its new owners Ruby and Portia, played by Brynn Godenir (“Burden of Truth”) and Michelle Nolden (“Nikita”), respectively.
Carpenter serves as showrunner, with Adam MacDonald (Backcountry, Pyewacket) directing.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review out of Fantasia, “This coming-of-age horror fantasy gets bleak, as dystopian tales tend to, with Ezban plunging three young boys into gruesome, harrowing scenarios. But it’s offset with bursts of levity, whimsy, and a sense of impressive style that sets this post-apocalyptic story apart, even when familiar hallmarks creep in.”
Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated alternative folk band The Lumineers, has composed the score for The Long Walk, Variety has learned.
Based on Stephen King‘ 1979 novel of the same name, The Long Walk is directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) and written by JT Mollner (Strange Darling).
“Francis [Lawrence] and I had a really great initial phone call that helped inform what instrumentation we thought would work,” commented Fraites. “Strings and piano felt right in servicing the expected horror you’d find in Stephen King canon. The real challenge for me was going to be writing music that would properly represent the deep relationships these boys were forming while on this brutal walk.”
“We met years ago when the band the Lumineers did a song for the [The Hunger Games] Catching Fire soundtrack — Jeremiah and I had remained friends after that, and stayed in contact,” added Lawrence. “He’d send me vinyl versions of his solo albums and it was exactly that work that made me think he’d be perfect for The Long Walk.”
“I’m forever grateful to [producer] Roy Lee and Francis for the opportunity to write my first feature film score,” said Fraites. “It was the thrill of a lifetime to score this film. Having been a fan of Francis’ work already for years, it was definitely a pinch-me moment to realize I was now getting the opportunity to write music over the incredible picture I was being sent.”
The Long Walk arrives in theaters on September 12 from Lionsgate.
