Based on the Bram Stoker Award-winning horror novel by Adam Cesare, the slasher movie Clown in a Cornfield is slaughtering its way into theaters nationwide on May 9, 2025.

RLJE Films and Shudder have released the Red Band trailer for Clown in a Cornfield this morning, which introduces a brand new killer clown to the world of horror cinema: Frendo.

Everyone is a friend of Frendo. And Frendo loves killing his friends. Get a taste of the killer clown’s murderous rampage by watching the bloody slasher’s official trailer below.

Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) directed the movie adaptation of the young adult slasher novel, which was published by HarperCollins in 2020 and spawned two sequels.

Clown in a Cornfield will world premiere at SXSW on March 10, 2025.

Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia), Carson MacCormac (Shazam!), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), Will Sasso (The Three Stooges), and Kevin Durand (Abigail) star.

Here’s the new plot synopsis: Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs. The real fun starts when Frendo the clown comes out to play.

The Clown in a Cornfield movie is said to be a “harrowing, savage, heart-pounding adaptation,” with director Eli Craig recently promising “an insanely fun, action, horror, comedy.”

Carter Blanchard and Eli Craig adapted the first novel in Adam Cesare’s trilogy. The most recent book, The Church of Frendo, released last year, with a fourth on the way.

Edward Furlong helped save humanity in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and now he has to do it again in Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep.

Based on H.P. Lovecraft‘s 1919 short story “Beyond the Wall of Sleep,” the cosmic horror film hits VOD on March 4 from Breaking Glass Pictures.

It’s the third Lovecraft adaptation from writer-director Chad Ferrin, following 2020’s The Deep Ones and 2024’s The Old Ones.

Renowned oneirologist Ambrose London is summoned to Arkham Asylum to investigate a bizarre split-personality case involving a patient seemingly possessed by a 122-year-old colonial peasant. What begins as a psychological study soon descends into unimaginable terror when London’s Dream Machine unleashes an alien life form intent on world annihilation.

Bai Ling (The Crow), Ginger Lynn (The Devil’s Rejects), Robert Miano (Donnie Brasco), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Steve Railsback (Lifeforce), and Cyril O’Reilly (Porky’s) round out the cast.

“Thrilled to have Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep, the final film in my Lovecraft trilogy, in the hands of Breaking Glass Pictures,” said Ferrin. “I know this boundary-pushing, gonzo film will get the passionate release it deserves from them.”

The film features practical effects by Joe Castro (Campfire Tales, Iron Sky: The Coming Race).

“Beyond the Wall of Sleep” was previously adapted into a 2006 movie featuring Tom Savini.

A campfire horror story becomes a living nightmare in the upcoming horror movie Marshmallow, and the summer camp horror movie has been dated for a spring release.

Hemlock Circle will release Marshmallow in theaters on April 11, 2025.

In the film, “At a secluded summer camp, Morgan, a shy and introverted 12-year-old, is thrust into a living nightmare when a legendary campfire tale becomes real. As a mysterious figure begins stalking the camp, Morgan and his newfound friends must embark on a perilous journey that will force them to confront their deepest fears and question the very nature of their existence.”

Kue Lawrence (Beautiful Boy), Kai Cech (Dear Santa), Corbin Bernsen (The Dentist), and Max Malas (New Amsterdam) star in Marshmallow.

Daniel DelPurgatorio makes his feature directorial debut from a script by Andy Greskoviak (Black Friday). Robert Kurtzman (Fear Street, Black Friday) is handling the film’s special effects.

Ahead of the film’s April release, check out the new trailer below, which introduces Lawrence’s timid Morgan as he realizes the eerie campfire legend is real. Accompanying the trailer is the film’s poster, which riffs on The Thing.

The road to developing Legendary’s new live-action Street Fighter movie has been a bumpy one; the project lost directors Danny & Michael Philippou last summer when the filmmakers shifted to focus on Bring Her Back. Today, Deadline reports that a new director has taken the reins.

“Twisted Metal” and Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai is officially taking over directorial duties from the Philippou brothers.

Sony Pictures previously announced that the new movie based on the popular video game franchise was set for theatrical release on March 20, 2026. With the new director in place, this date will likely hold but it’s still early yet.

Legendary is co-developing and producing the live-action feature with Capcom. Capcom’s popular franchise launched in 1987 with the arcade fighting game Street Fighter, followed by the even more popular Street Fighter II in 1991. The most recent edition, Street Fighter 6, was released in June 2023 and won the award for Best Fighting Game at the 2023 Game Awards.

The franchise’s extreme popularity yielded one of the first live-action video game adaptations ever with 1994’s Street Fighter, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile, Raúl Juliá as the villainous M. Bison, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and Kylie Minogue as Cammy. The plot follows Guile leading a team of fighters to rescue hostages. Director Steven E. de Souza’s film arrived at the start of the video game adaptation trend that launched with 1993’s Super Mario Bros. film. The Street Fighter franchise received another live-action adaptation with 20th Century Fox’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009, starring  Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li.

With the success of films like Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Five Nights at Freddy’s and its upcoming sequel, video game adaptations are back in force. Also on the way is Christophe Gans’ Return to Silent Hill, though the continuation of the 2006 film remains currently undated.

If you’re seeing NEON and director Osgood Perkins‘ The Monkey in theaters this week, you may want to stay seated until the lights come up.

Bloody Disgusting has received word that there’s something special after the credits, which we suspect is connected to Perkins’ next movie with NEON, Keeper.

Due out on October 3, the mysterious film is being billed as “a dark trip” from the director of Longlegs and The Monkey, one that’s armed with a very serious tone.

Written by Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals), the upcoming Keeper stars Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor).

NEON also has another horror movie, Together starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, releasing on August 1. Maybe we’ll see something from that too…

Based on the Stephen King short story, The Monkey hits over 3,200 screens nationwide tomorrow.

Maslany stars in the gory horror-comedy alongside Theo James, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy.

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey in the James Wan-produced The Monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. 25 years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “With brisk storytelling efficiency and a playful spirit, The Monkey delivers a Stephen King adaptation like no other. Perkins pushes back against logic in favor of entertaining midnight madness, and death has never been funnier or gorier as a result.”
