Dakota Fanning (Watchers) is next teaming up with director Bryan Bertino (The Strangers, The Dark and the Wicked) for the horror movie Vicious, but Paramount has shifted its release date yet again, per Deadline.

Vicious was initially slated for August 8, 2025 before getting moved up to February 28, 2025. Now, Bertino’s film is currently undated as the studio is looking to find a better date for the film.

Not much is known about Vicious just yet, but the plot follows “a young woman who must spend the night fighting for her existence as she slips down a disturbing rabbit hold contained inside a mysterious gift from a late-night visitor.”

Kathryn Hunter, Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, and Devyn Nekoda also star.

Bryan Bertino wrote the script and will be directing the film, an Atlas Independent production. Melinda Whitaker serves as executive producer, with Richard Suckle also producing.

Here’s to hoping Vicious finds a secure 2025 date soon, because Bertino’s most recent film, The Dark and the Wicked, delivered intense atmospheric chills.

A live-action Masters of the Universe movie is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, and Deadline reports that the project has found its Skeletor in Jared Leto, along with a few of Skeletor’s henchmen.

Masters of the Universe has now been set for theatrical release on June 5, 2026, with Travis Knight (Bumblebee) on board to direct He-Man’s return to the big screen.

Joining Leto as Skeletor are Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson (The Northman) as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah (In the Grey) as Tri-Klops. Rounding out the villains is Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s second-in-command to be played by Alison Brie.

Deadline reminds of the henchmen’s skillset, “Trap Jaw is a recurring villain in the franchise, known for his cybernetic enhancements and versatile weaponry. Goat Man is a minor villain known for his goat-like appearance and association with Skeletor’s forces, while Tri-Klops is one of Skeletor’s most resourceful and tech-savvy henchmen, a skilled swordsman who’s a master of surveillance and technology.”

Opposing the villains are Nicholas Galitzine’s (The Idea of You) He-Man and Camila Mendes’s (“Riverdale”) Teela. Also set to star is Idris Elba, who plays Duncan, Man-At-Arms.

Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s safe to assume that it’ll center one the ongoing battle between “the heroic He-Man — the universe’s most powerful man — and the evil Skeletor.” The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.

Jared Leto most recently transformed fully as the Hatbox Ghost in the most recent live-action adaptation of Disney’s Haunted Mansion, so this role feels like a natural progression.

Caye Casas’s The Coffee Table delivered on of the darkest, pitch black horror comedies of the year that even shocked Stephen King. Casas revealed today that a Turkish remake of his macabre feature is now in production, with Baskin director Can Evrenol at the helm.

Casas broke the news on social media, revealing that the remake is currently titled Cam Sehpa.

The Coffee Table “follows Jesus and Maria, a couple going through a difficult time in their relationship. Nevertheless, they have just become parents. To shape their new life, they decide to buy a new coffee table. A decision that will change their existence.”

David Pareja and Estefanía de los Santos star as the ill-fated couple, with Josep Riera, Claudia Riera, and Eduardo Antuña rounding out the cast.

The horror comedy is currently streaming on Tubi in case you missed it, and Casas is already hard at work on follow up horror movie El Show del Gran Luciferio.

As for Can Evrenol, adapting The Coffee Table sounds like a perfect fit for the director behind Baskin and upcoming revenge horror Sayara, which Daniel Kurland writes “will make horror fans wince from its carnage and applaud its bleak audacity” in his review. 

Will the Baskin filmmaker somehow top the grim dark insanity of Casas’ film? Time will tell; stay tuned.

It’s the final days before Christmas and since horror is the gift that keeps on giving, the genre is dropping a small handful of final releases down the chimney before the end of the year.

First up is the psychological horror movie Listen Carefully from director Ryan Barton-Grimley (Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers), which hit VOD outlets this past Monday.

In the indie horror film, “When troubled assistant bank manager Andy McNeary’s baby daughter goes missing, he must follow the instructions of a mysterious voice on the other end of a baby monitor to save her before she disappears and his life is ruined forever.”

Ryan Barton-Grimley stars alongside co-star/producer Simone Barton-Grimley (Elijah’s Ashes) and co-star/producer Ari Schneider (Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers, Elijah’s Ashes).

The filmmaking team for Listen Carefully is joined by frequent collaborators Audrey Haworth (production designer), David Rickabaugh (art director) and Sean Ayers (cinematographer).

True crime and the paranormal intertwine in the brand new documentary The Lady of the Lake from Uncork’d Entertainment and director Ryan Grulich (Georgie, Foolish Mortals).

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get its own “R” rated twist.

Lionsgate‘s horror movie The Little Mermaid released on VOD this past Tuesday.

The film is rated “R” for language, violence, and nudity. Lionsgate previews, “Beauty is deceiving and dangerous in this darkly fascinating twist on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale.”

In the fantasy horror movie from director Leigh Scott, “After archeologist Dr. Eric Prince and his students uncover an ancient pagan temple in the depths of the Caribbean, Eric falls for a mysterious woman who resembles a mermaid he and his team encountered at sea.

“As their relationship intensifies, she leads Eric deeper into her evil underwater world until he must choose between true love and the destruction of all humanity.”

Mike Markoff, Jeff Denton, Samuel Selman, Sean Michael Argo, Winston Crooke, Steven Yniguez, Manon Laurent, and Lydia Helen star in this unofficial Little Mermaid tale.

Written and directed by Justin Geldzahler, Glue Trap also hit VOD on Tuesday.

In the film, “KJ and Dan are struggling to communicate. A few years into a strained relationship, the couple takes a weekend trip to a friend’s cabin to recapture their romance… only to find a dying-but-not-quite-dead mouse stuck to a glue trap. They disagree about how to handle, KJ advocating for a swift death while Dan proposes making the mouse’s last moments as pleasant as possible. The couple compromises and moves on, slowly finding their way back to each other in this idyllic setting.

“Unfortunately, their serenity is broken by the arrival of a small woman who can be charitably described as “eccentric” — she’s their host’s younger sister and had no idea anyone was staying at the family cabin. No problem if she crashes, right? As the couple struggles to juggle this interloper on top of their already tense dynamic, KJ and Dan begin to worry this obnoxious third wheel may threaten more than their relationship.”

Brittany Bradford, Isaac W. Jay, Gloria Bangiola, Alex Warheit, Caroline Hertz, and Kasey Marr star in Glue Trap, which was released onto VOD outlets by Gravitas Ventures.

It’s of course not a new movie but we figured you’d appreciate a reminder here that Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later was finally brought back to Digital outlets this past Wednesday.

You can purchase or rent 28 Days Later on Digital outlets right now. Over on Amazon Prime Video, for example, you can rent the film for $3.99 or purchase the film for $14.99.

Physical media copies of 28 Days Later have been out-of-print for some time now, and the 2002 infection horror movie had also been unavailable to digitally stream in any capacity.

Animal rights activists free a group of infected chimpanzees to horrifying results in this speculative sci-fi horror effort from writer Alex Garland and director Danny Boyle. Waking from a coma in a deserted London hospital, bicycle courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) takes to the deserted city streets in a state of mystified confusion. Joining forces with another group of survivors following a terrifying encounter in a seemingly abandoned church, Jim soon learns the truth behind the deserted streets and the menacing creatures that lurk in the shadows.

Sequel 28 Years Later will be unleashed in theaters on June 20, 2025 from Sony.

And finally, holiday horror movie The Naughty List of Mr. Scrooge came down the chimney on VOD outlets beginning today (December 20) from the genre distributor Terror Films.

In writer/director Jake Helgren’s The Naughty List of Mr. Scrooge, “a group of former college friends gather for a reunion at a winter chalet fifteen years after one of their own dies during their production of A Christmas Carol. The group then finds themselves being stalked and killed off one by one by someone dressed as a terrifying vision of Ebenezer Scrooge.”

Skye Coyne, Colin Koth, Kim Whalen, and Liz Fenning star.

Helgren said in a statement, “There have been a lot of spins on classic characters bursting through the pipelines as of late, but Scrooge has always been the most undeniably classic holiday villain, so to finally bring the lore of his legacy to life in our fun slasher rollercoaster has truly been a Christmas wish come true.

“Our team put a ton of love into this holiday love letter to all those naughty horror fans out there…and Scrooge is about to bring a ton of slashing to the season of giving.”
