Iconic franchises never stay down for too long. In the wake of Terminator: Dark Fate back in 2019, the Terminator saga will continue with Netflix’s upcoming anime series Terminator Zero on August 29, but it seems that’s not the only new Terminator project in the works.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter this week, Terminator and Terminator 2 director James Cameron has revealed that he’s working on a new Terminator project of his own.
“It looks interesting,” Cameron answered when asked about Netflix’s Terminator Zero, for starters. “My relationship to that is very much like The Sarah Connor Chronicles — other people spinning stories in a world I set in motion is interesting to me. What’s their takeaway? What intrigued them about it? Where are they going with it?”
He continues, “It looks like they’re going back to the root cause of Judgment Day — the nuclear war — and whether that’s an ultimate timeline. I’d be curious to see what they’ve come up with. I’m working on my own Terminator stuff right now. It’s got nothing to do with that.”
“It’s totally classified,” Cameron added when asked for more info. “I don’t want to have to send out a potentially dangerous robotic agent if you were to talk about it, even retroactively.”
Of course, Cameron could be talking about literally anything here, from a new movie to a comic book, video game, television series, or something else entirely. Stay tuned for more.
