Billed as “a thrilling creature feature inspired by classics like Tremors and the 1988 remake of The Blob,” director Aaron Bratcher’s Slash Squatch is now being fan-funded via Indiegogo.
The project is looking to raise $35,000 in the next couple weeks to bring Slash Squatch to life on screen, with 28 backers raising nearly $6,000 at the time of this article’s publication.

The first five minutes of the upcoming film have already been shot and released on the project’s official website, with plans for the rest of the film to begin production in September.
A live action Masters of the Universe movie is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, and Deadline reports that Camila Mendes (“Riverdale”) has signed on.
Camila Mendes will play Teela alongside Nicholas Galitzine’s (The Idea of You) He-Man.
Deadline notes, “Her character, Teela, is a warrior who as Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard, is responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam aka He-Man.”
Masters of the Universe has now been set for theatrical release on June 5, 2026, with Travis Knight (Bumblebee) on board to direct He-Man’s return to the big screen.
Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.
Deadline had reported, “The movie follows ten-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”
The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.
The new movie comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel, and Escape Artist.
Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, I.S.S.) stars as a high-pressure “Chef” in House of Spoils, a new genre-bending thriller that explores the chaos she encounters both in and out of the kitchen. Brand new images highlight the stressful environment before the horror ensues.
House of Spoils will have its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest on Saturday, September 21, before premiering globally on Prime Video on October 3, 2024.
The film “follows an ambitious chef (Ariana DeBose) as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self-doubts… and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.”

RKSS — the Canadian filmmaking collective composed of François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell — wrote and directed the horror-comedy, based on the comic book series The Zombies That Ate the World.

After being released in theaters last month, Well Go USA’s werewolf movie The Beast Within starring Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) is now available on VOD outlets at home.

NEON has been having a killer year here in 2024 and they’re back with Mothers’ Instinct, a Hitchcockian thriller that was released on VOD outlets at home on Tuesday, August 13.
The psychological thriller stars Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway.
Mothers’ Instinct is based on the novel Derrière la Haine by Barbara Abel, and it’s also a remake of director Olivier Masset-Depasse’s same-titled French-language film from 2018.

The big new release for the week is of course 20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus, which is opening exclusively in theaters nationwide beginning Thursday, August 15.

Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Final Destination, Idle Hands) gets feral in the wilderness in Consumed, the latest horror movie by The Butcher Brothers (The Hamiltons, The Violent Kind).
Consumed releases in theaters and On Demand Friday, August 16.
In the film, “Trapped between a madman (Devon Sawa) seeking revenge and a skin-stealing monster, a married couple must find the strength to fight and make it out of the woods alive.”
Courtney Halverson (Unfriended, St. Agatha) and Mark Famiglietti (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) costar as “Jay and Beth, a married couple taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.”
The Butcher Brothers, aka director Mitchell Altieri and producer Phil Flores, direct from a script by David Calbert. Jeffrey Allard, one of the producers behind 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, produced the upcoming horror movie.
Netflix paid a reported $65 million for the rights to The Deliverancein a hot bidding war, and they’re bringing the film to select theaters on August 16 ahead of the Netflix debut.
Look for The Deliverance on Netflix beginning August 30.
Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence and Anthony B. Jenkins star in The Deliverance, which is being described as an “exorcism thriller.” Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Aunjanue Ellis, Caleb McLaughlin and Tasha Smith also star.
In the film, “Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.”
Netflix’s The Deliverance is based on a true story, and in addition to directing Lee Daniels also wrote the script with David Coggeshall, Elijah Bynum and Thomas Westfall.
The feature film debut of South Korean filmmaker Jason Yu, Sleep, comes with big praise from Parasite director Bong Joon-Ho, who calls it “the smartest debut I’ve seen in ten years.” It’s even featured in the brand new trailer, along with an eerie new look at the dangers of sleepwalking.
Magnet Releasing will unlesh Sleep in theaters and on Digital on September 27, 2024.
Sleep follows “newlyweds Hyun-su (Lee Sun-kyun, Parasite) and Soo-jin (Jung Yu-mi), whose domestic bliss is disrupted when Hyun-su begins speaking in his sleep, ominously stating, “Someone’s inside.” From that night on, whenever he falls asleep, Hyun-su transforms into someone else, with no recollection of what happened the night before. Overwhelmed with anxiety that he may hurt himself or their young family, Soo-jin can barely sleep because of this irrational fear. Despite treatment, Hyun-su’s sleepwalking only intensifies, and Soo-jin begins to feel that her unborn child may be in danger.”
Jason Yu wrote and directed Sleep. The filmmaker worked with Korean legends Bong Joon-ho and Lee Chang-dong before making his debut film, which premiered in Cannes’ Critics’ Week before screening at TIFF and Fantastic Fest.

Joe Lipsett teased in his review out of TIFF to expect something supernatural at play. He wrrote, “almost entirely from Soo-jin’s perspective as she begins to accept that a supernatural element may be responsible. Despite laughing off a ward delivered by her superstitious mother, it’s only a matter of time Soo-jin fully buys into the idea that something otherworldly is involved.”
