March 2024

One of the horror movies on our radar for SXSW 2024 this month is the Australian film Birdeater, which has received an official teaser trailer ahead of the festival this week.
Birdeater, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and earned the Audience Award for Australian Narrative Feature, is set to make its International Premiere at SXSW.
Directed by the filmmaking duo Jack Clark and Jim Weir, Birdeater is said to be a “horror thriller that represents a visually striking and daring debut from this Australian duo.”
“A bride-to-be is invited to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, and the celebration soon becomes a feral nightmare.”
Shabana Azeez, Mackenzie Fearnley, Ben Hunter, Jack Bannister, Clementine Anderson, Alfie Gledhill, Harley Wilson, and Caroline McQuade star in Birdeater.
Jack Clark wrote the screenplay. Stephanie Troost and Ulysses Oliver produced, with executive producers including Ben Ferris, Chris Thompson, Jack Stephens, Jack Clark, and Jim Weir.
Stay tuned for our SXSW 2024 reviews, which begin later this week.

If there’s one thing that 1999’s raucous zombie movie Wild Zero taught us, it’s that Rock ‘n Roll never dies. That still holds true over twenty years later, as the underrated gem is gearing up to launch a crowdfunding campaign for sequel Wild Zero 2.
The Kickstarter to realize production of Wild Zero 2 kicks off on March 10, teasing rewards that include putting backers into the film as zombies.
Japanese rock band Guitar Wolf will be back to take on the zombie horde in ultra-cool style. Based on a proof of concept teaser, below, the band will have their work cut out for them as it appears that the rock spirit has died on Earth. Moreover, a mysterious new “Wolf Girl” may be the key to it all.
In director Tetsuro Takeuchi’s Wild Zero, “Only legendary Japanese garage rock band Guitar Wolf can stand between a race of aliens from destroying earth with an army of zombies.”
The horror comedy is based on a simple setup: aliens are responsible for unleashing the zombie apocalypse and only Japanese rock band Guitar Wolf can save the day. Essentially playing out like one feature length music video that puts Guitar Wolf’s distortion infused, punk-influenced attitude and sound at the forefront while they slaughter zombies along the way. It’s an absolute blast, complete with unforgettable dialogue, including “Love has no borders, nationalities, or genders!”
Of course, not much else is known about Wild Zero 2 just yet, including who’s attached to direct. All will likely be revealed on March 10, but any news of a Wild Zero sequel is worth getting amped about now.
Crowd funding for the Wild Zero sequel begins March 10 on kick starter.
We have prepared a lot of rewards that are unprecedented in the history of cinema!
