‘Wolf Man’ Movie from Universal and Director Leigh Whannell Moves into 2025

Filming kicked off just a couple weeks ago on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which had been ambitiously dated for release on October 25, 2024. As it turns out, however, a Halloween 2024 release was a bit too ambitious.

THR reports that Wolf Man will howl its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) has been cast in the titular role.

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) will also star.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.

‘Flowervale Street’ – Bad Robot’s Mysterious IMAX Event from ‘It Follows’ Director Gets Title and Date

David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is directing a genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s so secretive we didn’t even have a title. Until now. And we also have a release date!

Deadline reports today that the mysterious event movie from Bad Robot and David Robert Mitchell is titled Flowervale Street, with an IMAX release date set for May 16, 2025.

Now that we have a title and a release date, what about a plot synopsis? Well, that part is still a secret. We have literally no idea what Flowervale Street is about at this time, but we’d like to at least recklessly speculate that it’s a Cloverfield Universe movie. It’s more than likely not, mind you – this is a Warner Bros. Pictures project versus a Paramount release, for starters – but there’s just something about that title that feels very… 10 Cloverfield Lane, isn’t there?

The film is said to be an IMAX “thrill ride,” and the secretive marketing at the very least calls to mind Bad Robot’s Cloverfield strategy. Our interest is mighty piqued, that’s for damn sure.

Stay tuned for more on Flowervale Street as we learn it.

Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery will star.

Mitchell directs from his own original script and is producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot, Jackson Pictures’ Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper.

David Robert Mitchell is also returning to the world of his horror hit It Follows with the upcoming They Follow, which will bring Maika Monroe back as Jay Height.

‘Ready or Not 2’? Sequel Reportedly Taking Shape With Samara Weaving Expected to Return

We have the 2019 hit Ready or Not to thank for landing directors Radio Silence the keys to the Scream franchise, the film released into theaters in August 2019 and scaring up $57.6 million at the worldwide box office. The Samara Weaving-starring fan favorite was made on a production budget of just $6 million, making it a nice little hit for Fox Searchlight.

So where the hell is Ready or Not 2, you ask?!

Jeff Sneider reports on The Insneider this week that Ready or Not 2 is in development, with director Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan, Insidious: The Last Key, Escape Room, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) currently in talks to direct the sequel.

Sneider additionally reports that Samara Weaving will return for Ready or Not 2, once again playing the character Grace. In the first Ready or Not, Grace is a bride whose wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

You can read the full report over on The Insneider.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed Ready or Not. In addition to Samara Weaving, the cast included Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell.

The film introduced a mythology wherein the wealthy Le Domas family has made a deal with the devil, one that requires them to take part in bizarre – and deadly – wedding night traditions. There’s much that can be done with the premise going forward, even if the first movie ended with Weaving’s Grace massacring the family and burning down their estate.

Wikipedia reminds, “The sole survivor of the night, Grace walks out of the burning manor just as the police arrive. Upon asking her what happened, she simply replies: in-laws.”

Stay tuned for more on the upcoming sequel as we learn it.

‘Riddle of Fire’ – Yellow Veil Pictures & Vinegar Syndrome Bring Festival Hit Home in April

Director Weston Razooli made waves at the Toronto International Film Festival last year with Riddle of Fire, which our own Joe Lipsett gave 4/5 stars in his review.

Joe wrote, “Riddle of Fire has all of the hallmarks of a classic ’80s children adventure film, mixed with the quaintness of a British fairytale.” His review continued, “In short: think Goonies meets Adventures in Babysitting with a touch of The Princess Bride‘s aesthetic.”

In this truly one-of-a-kind slice of visionary cinema, “Three mischievous children embark on a woodland odyssey when their mother sends them on an errand.”

When will you be able to see it? Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned that Yellow Veil Pictures & Vinegar Syndrome will bring Riddle of Fire to at-home VOD on April 12.

You can pre-order the movie via Apple TV now.

After premiering in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival, the film went on to close the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival and screen at Fantastic Fest and Sitges. It was shot on 16mm, and it’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Vinegar Syndrome will be releasing Riddle of Fire on Blu-ray, so stay tuned for more on that. The film also has its own retro-style video game, as well as a card game from Button Shy.

‘Pandemic Sex Party’ Trailer – ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ Producer Slices into Influencers with Grindhouse Throwback

AI has taken over the job market and most people have become either influencers or online sex workers in Pandemic Sex Party, a new horror film from producer Andy Gould (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, The Lords of Salem). Described as a throwback to the grindhouse exploitation cinema of the past, the official trailer has been unleashed this week.

Bloody Disgusting has learned that production has quietly begun on Pandemic Sex Party, about a masked maniac brutally crashing the titular bash. Writer/director Myles Erfurth says don’t let the title fool you… Pandemic Sex Party is a “balls-to-the-wall gritty horror flick and pure grindhouse terror.” Today, horror fans are being invited to join the party and participate in Pandemic Sex Party’s incentive-laden Indiegogo campaign, which is now live.

“When Myles Erfurth’s screenplay for Pandemic Sex Party came across my desk, I blazed through it in one sitting,” says Gould. “I was hooked from the start by its original mix of twisted horror and great characters, as well as its clever setting and set-up. But what really caught my attention was the blood-chilling character of The Rancher. Having worked with Rob Zombie on his classic horror films, I know a thing or two about memorable villains. The Rancher, Pandemic Sex Party’s savage killer, is a terrifying new slasher icon ready to be embraced by the horror world.”

The filmmakers pledge to recapture thrills of past exploitation gold. “As an homage to the glory day of grindhouse-style films, Pandemic Sex Party will not disappoint,” says Erfurth, whose previous feature film, The Silver Stream, was an interactive live-stream horror film that starred Bill Moseley and Ice Nine Kills.

“Our story takes place in the not-so-distant future. AI has taken over the majority of the job market, and the primary source of income for young people is that of a social media influencer or online model. Being on the verge of another pandemic, Sasha, a young video game streamer, heads off into the desert for the weekend to make ‘content’ with her online model friends: Tanya, Cash, Dream and her younger sister Cherry.”

Trouble awaits at the remote location. “Once arriving at the rental house dubbed ‘The Funny Ranch,’ the group slowly begins to realize things aren’t exactly as they seem,” music video veteran Erfurth continues. “They are soon met by The Rancher, a masked killer who has a vendetta against the newly-changing world, online influencers and online models alike.”

Erfurth further previews, “The majority of modern-day horror films have become sexually watered-down. Pandemic Sex Party is going to be a wild ride.”

Exclusively watch the trailer for Pandemic Sex Party below and head over to the crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo to pitch in and get perks including a walk-on role in the movie.
